About Afghan Social Marketing Organization (ASMO)
The Afghan Social Marketing Organization (ASMO) is a social marketing and behavioral change communication organization established in August 2008. ASMO as a free-standing, not-for-profit Afghan organization aims to create positive health outcomes by giving Afghan households the information they need to make informed and healthy choices and expanding access to high quality health products through commercial markets.
The Sustaining Health Outcomes through the Private Sector Plus (SHOPS Plus) project led by Abt Associates awarded Afghan Social Marketing Organization (ASMO), a project that improves the delivery of high quality family planning and maternal and child health products to target populations in Afghanistan through the private sector.
SHOPS Plus will provide technical assistance to ASMO in designing and implementing high quality social marketing interventions which leads to increased access to affordable priority health products and increased demand for priority health products and services. In addition, SHOPS Plus will collaborate with ASMO in developing a vision and roadmap for ASMO sustainability.
ASMO is looking for a qualified Business Development Manager to work for the Social Marketing Project under the SHOPS Plus.
Under the direction of the Programs Director, the Business Development Manager develops business development action plan in line with ASMO Strategic Business Development Plan and ensure its implementation; actively searches business development opportunities, write proposals in coordination with the management team; develops and implements sound public relation strategy for ASMO; expand ASMO public relations with donors and private entities and present ASMO core capabilities to attract more businesses for ASMO.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Program Strategy and Implementation :
Manages and oversees program strategy development and implementation for major program areas – Business Development (BD) Public Relation (PR) in coordination with the management team.
Develops, executes and maintains policies and procedures for implementing BD/PR activities.
2. Business Development
In consultation with the Programs Director, drafts business development strategy and prepares the annual Business Development plan.
Develop a donor mapping document and regularly update it.
Develops new business relationships with other donors to attract more businesses for ASMO.
Searches new local and international opportunities and projects by analyzing business needs.
Develops proposals in coordination with the management team.
Meets proposal development time-lines according to the assigned scope of work by donor agencies
Reports and discusses status of Business Development with the Programs Director on a weekly basis and ensures program activity schedules are implemented accordingly.
3. Public Relations:
Develops sound PR strategy for ASMO and ensure its implementation.
Presents ASMO to potential clients/donors through direct communication in face to face meetings, telephone calls and emails.
Schedule introductory meetings with development partners/donors and prepare and distribute communication materials on ASMO vision, mission and scope of activities
Provides constructive input in the development of brochure, briefers, posters and organizational profile.
Represents ASMO at external events, including workshops, conferences, and meetings to promote and advance the organization’s work.
Interfaces with, and cultivates relations with, international and local community partners.
Adheres to all ASMO administrative and operations policies and procedures. Assumes other duties, as directed by Programs Director
Professional skills in business development including but not limited to business/strategic planning, and donor relations, quality proposal writing and productive networking
Deep understanding of donors’ scope of work in the development sector in Afghanistan
Ability to search, identifies, and analyzes national and international business opportunities
Strong verbal and written communication and leadership skills, since the incumbent will work closely with ASMO senior management team
Fluent in English, Dari and Pashto.
Strong report writing abilities in English, Dari and Pashto.
Computer skills MS Office packages and internet particularly searching engines/websites for business opportunities
Team work ability and good interpersonal skills.
Having a MSc. preferably in public health (MPH) or MBA in business, economics, and development studies or related field from a recognized university, a five year relevant experience with MD (medical doctor) or BBA degree in related fields will also be considered equivalent
At least 5 years of work experience in business development positions out of which 3 year as manager
Work experience with national and international NGOs
Evidences on successful proposal writing and winning the projects (preferably health related projects) in the past
Experience of working with other USAID projects is an asset
Experience of working in the health and relevant positions is a plus
