About Afghanistan New Generation Organization

The Afghanistan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) is an Afghanistan-based organization and the most comprehensive journalist safety mechanism of any country in the world. AJSC maintains the largest database of media workers in Afghanistan, has national and provincial female coordinators to provide support to female media workers, publishes research on media and freedom of speech in Afghanistan, works closely with the Afghan government to develop media laws and provides emergency support to journalists in conflict. AJSC operates under the umbrella of the Afghanistan New Generation Organization (ANGO), an Afghanistan-based NGO that works on projects related to youth in Afghanistan.

Job Summary

The Female Coordinator oversees all of AJSC’s activities related to female journalists and media workers in the country, including management of two provincial staff, coordination of AJSC’s network of female media workers and advocacy for media workers. The Female Coordinator will work closely with the directors of AJSC and ANGO.

Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position are broken into the three categories of Personnel Management, Coordination and Advocacy.

Personnel Management
• Manage two provincial coordinators, based in Herat and Mazar-e-Sharif, including task assignment, work oversight and professional support
• Travel biannually to Herat and Mazar-e-Sharif
• Work with two provincial coordinators to produce monthly reports on the situation of female journalists in the provinces

• Network with female journalists in Kabul, including attending events for female media workers
• Assist Operations Manager in data collection for reporting
• Coordinate with Database Officer to keep database of female journalists current and accurate

• Follow up on cases of harassment of violence of female journalists across the country
• Encourage media stations to develop anti-harassment policies; provide support in the development of these policies
• Conduct surveys and research on issues of relevance to female media workers
• Organize events and trainings for female journalists in Kabul
• Produce quarterly reports no the situation of female journalists in Afghanistan
• Assist in other tasks as assigned
