About Afghanistan New Generation Organization

The Afghanistan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) is an Afghanistan-based organization and the most comprehensive journalist safety mechanism of any country in the world. AJSC maintains the largest database of media workers in Afghanistan, has national and provincial female coordinators to provide support to female media workers, publishes research on media and freedom of speech in Afghanistan, works closely with the Afghan government to develop media laws and provides emergency support to journalists in conflict. AJSC operates under the umbrella of the Afghanistan New Generation Organization (ANGO), an Afghanistan-based NGO that works on projects related to youth in Afghanistan.

Job Summary

The Communications Officer is responsible for all AJSC communications, particularly for a project to enhance activist and journalist ability to safely and effectively report on and promote human rights in the country, funded by the United States Department of Labor, Democracy and Human Rights. The Communications Officer is responsible for promoting AJSC’s activities, creating content for and managing social media and producing reports on the organization’s overall activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position are broken into the three categories of Content Creation, Media Management and Reporting.

Content Creation
• Write about AJSC's activities, including reports, press releases, op-eds, website content, etc. Write and/or all English-language content
• Design, carry out, write and edit surveys and research studies related to media and journalism in Afghanistan

Media Management
• Serve as organizational spokesperson and give interviews on organization’s behalf, with coordination with senior management
• Create content for and manage all social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo and Youtube
• Meet with donors, civil society and journalists to promote AJSC’s activities and discuss concerns and issues
• Update website with press releases, reports, organizational updates and other content

• Track organization activities and produce internal monthly reports
• Write, design and produce biannual reports
• Assist in other tasks as assigned


The Communications Officer is expected to exercise the following qualifications:
• Excellent communication skills in Dari, Pashto and English
• Experience writing press releases, newsletters, web and other content
• Social media management experience
• Initiative and results-oriented mindset
• Strong independent work ethic
• Networking skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to thrive in fast-faced work environment
• Willingness and ability to learn
