About Afghanistan New Generation Organization

The Afghanistan Journalists Safety Committee (AJSC) is an Afghanistan-based organization and the most comprehensive journalist safety mechanism of any country in the world. AJSC maintains the largest database of media workers in Afghanistan, has national and provincial female coordinators to provide support to female media workers, publishes research on media and freedom of speech in Afghanistan, works closely with the Afghan government to develop media laws and provides emergency support to journalists in conflict. AJSC operates under the umbrella of the Afghanistan New Generation Organization (ANGO), an Afghanistan-based NGO that works on projects related to youth in Afghanistan.

Job Summary

The Database and Hotline Officer is responsible for managing all of AJSC’s journalist and civil society databases, and manning the 24-hour crisis hotline as part of a project to enhance activist and journalist ability to safely and effectively report on and promote human rights in the country.

Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position are broken into the three categories of Database Management, Hotline Management and Reporting.

Database Management
• Create comprehensive database compiling ANGO and AJSC existing databases on media workers, violence against journalists, human rights defenders and violence against human rights defenders
• Record and carry out all data entry for all cases of violence against journalists
• Record and carry out all data entry for cases of violence against human rights defenders
• Constantly update and fact-check all databases for accuracy

Hotline Management
• Provide 24-7 supervision of a hotline number to report cases of violence against journalists and human rights defenders
• Attend all hotline calls, record calls in call log

• Track databases and produce internal monthly reports on violence against journalists and human rights defenders
• Provide quarterly updates on all databases
• Assist in data gathering and analysis for biannual reports
• Assist in other tasks as assigned
