Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of Senior Human Settlements Officer, UN-Habitat Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP), and Country Programme Manager, and direct supervision of CGC Programme Managers, will be responsible for:

Communication
•Support the Programme Managers in designing a communications strategy for the CGC programme to ensure visibility and knowledge dissemination
•Write and produce communication products such as news stories, blogs, and press releases of CGC Programme on a bi-weekly basis
•Document and produce lessons learnt from CGC programme activities as discussion papers
•Coordinate, develop and maintain network and partnership with donors, media, stakeholders and other ministries as a focal point of UN-Habitat Afghanistan for communication on CGC
•Organize and manage the campaigns and events such as forum and seminars organized by UN-Habitat in partnership with government agencies
•Undertake necessary procurement procedures for communication activities
•Attend United Nations Communication Working Group
•Provide technical support to municipalities for development of media and communication strategy, and outreach activities to engage the citizen in CGC program implementation as government actions.
Editing and Visualization
•Produce and edit communication tools such as official reports, art-works, photos, charts and other graphic elements
•Develop advocacy materials including posters, presentations and other visual materials.
Others
•Support other Clean and Green Cities (CGC) staff where necessary and performs other related duties, as required.
•Perform any other relevant duties and administrative work assigned by the Knowledge Management Unit.
•Work closely with Knowledge Management Unit staff based in UN-Habitat for the production of communication tools, and understand the purpose, strength and outcome of CGC Programme activities to reflect their views in the tools

Education:
University degree (Bachelor degree or equivalent degree) in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations or related field.

Work Experience:
A minimum of Five years of work experience in public/private sector responsible in the field of journalism, communications, external relations, public affairs, public relations or corporate communications or related area.

Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations. Prior experience with UN funds and programmes on various operational moralities is an added asset.
Language:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English and Local/National Language of the duty station is required.
