About Office of Senior Advisor to the President of Afghanistan, Banking and Finance

The Office Senior Advisor to the President of Afghanistan in Banking and Finance is responsible for formulating the overall economic strategic goals of the government. It accomplishes this objective through four work streams: (1) coordinating policy-making for domestic and international economic issues, (2) coordinating economic policy advice for the President, (3) ensuring that policy decisions are consistent with the President’s economic goals and (4) monitoring implementation of the president’s economic policy agenda. The office also provides economic advice to the High Economic Council in pursuit of the above goals.

Job Summary

The Economist will conduct macroeconomic research related to growth, fiscal, monetary and balance of payments position for the purpose of generating long-term analysis and modeling of Afghanistan’s economy. He will work with the Economist team to incorporate analysis from the sector ministries to carry out various economic analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Collect information and data on macroeconomic indicators of Afghanistan’s economy;
Design primary data collection instruments;
Prepare macro and microeconomic time series and cross- sectional database;
Conduct research using primary and secondary data sources;
Build Economic models, representing complex issues in a simplified abstract representation;
Prepare database and data sets and carry out analysis;
Analyze data using mathematical models, statistical and econometric techniques;
Prepare quarterly reports on economic growth, trade growth, and fiscal analysis;
Undertake relevant research and write reports on macroeconomic situation;
Assist senior economist with preparing economic notes, such as monthly notes on fiscal policy, monetary policy, and inflation monitoring.
Present information in variety of formats.
Deliver results within tight deadlines and in response to specific supervisor’s request;
Any other task may assigned, based on requirement.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Economics or relevant fields such as Statistics or Mathematics. Master degree will be preferred

Experience
At least 3 years of relevant experience, preference will be given to candidates with additional years of experience.
