About American University of Afghanistan

The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) is a private, non-profit university offering an American-style liberal arts education. We opened our doors in 2005 and currently offer 4 undergraduate academic majors and a new MBA program. The AUAF Human Resources department is seeking a qualified candidate for a Full-time position as Human Resources Specialist based in Kabul.

Job Summary

The human resources specialist handles and provides support for the various HR employee programs within the organization. HR Specialist will be responsible for the overall lifecycle of staff/faculty. This includes from recruitment to onboarding. In addition, responsibilities include recruitment, hiring, orientation, and reports. The duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

Duties and Responsibilities

• Create job postings and hiring communications, source, screen and conduct interviews with candidates to assess qualification and discuss expectations of each position, manage and route incoming applications;
• Create and provide hiring guidelines to assist in recruitment timeline, support onboarding efforts which include: new hire paperwork, processing background checks, reference screening, documents validation;
• Ensure adherence to AUAF recruitment and equal employment opportunity rules and practices;
• Prepare a variety of reports and related documents for the purpose of providing documentation and information to the donors and others as required;
• Perform record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, faxing, data inputting, transmitting, telephoning, taking messages, responding to written and verbal inquiries, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the needs of the department;
• Monitor a variety of processes (e.g. applications, eligibility, certifications, education etc.) for the purpose of ensuring efficient processing of applicants and employees in addressing position requirements and adhering to the policies and procedures;
• Interpret transcripts, references, employment records, education codes and employment regulations for the purpose of ensuring compliance with required rules and regulations;
• Maintain manual and electronic documents, files, and records (e.g. personnel records, employee lists, leave record, etc.) for the purpose of providing accurate information in compliance with established guidelines;
• Drafts HR related and/or response letters in both languages Dari and English as required
• Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor;

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirement listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• The position requires the incumbent to reside in Afghanistan
• Bachelor’s degree in human resource, business management or related field and/or SHRM certified
• Minimum 4-6 years human resources generalist and recruitment experience with different international organizations
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written
• Customer oriented attitude and must have a great knowledge of dealing with employees
• Adept at MS office package and some previous knowledge/experience of HRM software and/or applications
• Ability to handle the demands of various personality types
• High level of integrity and reliability and a great team player
