Governmental officeThe Ministry of Public Works (MPW) is responsible for the planning, monitoring, maintenance and development of the various transport infrastructure projects such as Roads, Bridges, Culverts, Railway and Airport in the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Therefore to enhance the capacity to strengthen its ability to deliver effective, efficient and transparent services in MPW the Human Resource Directorate wishes to recruit the following staff on contract basis from development Budget for the Ministry of Public works.

Job Summary

• Lead and assist senior staff in planning and overseeing field explorations, construction projects, laboratory testing, design and analysis of shallow and deep foundations for highway and/or bridges and major hydraulic structures, stability and seepage analyses of earthen embankments, settlement estimates, lateral earth pressure assessments for retaining walls, and ground improvement assessments for complex sites.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead and assist senior staff in planning and overseeing field explorations, construction projects, laboratory testing, design and analysis of shallow and deep foundations for highway and/or bridges and major hydraulic structures, stability and seepage analyses of earthen embankments, settlement estimates, lateral earth pressure assessments for retaining walls, and ground improvement assessments for complex sites.
• Working in a team environment providing geotechnical engineering services.
• Lead geotechnical engineering and/or project manager for engineering projects for a wide variety of engineering projects for road and bridges related project.
• Lead and assist senior staff in executing geotechnical engineering projects from the preliminary stage, to planning and directing the field program, through data analysis and detailed design, to reporting and delivering solutions to MoPW related projects.
• Providing technical direction to junior staff.
• Assist senior staff in managing our regional office relationships, including road and bridge projects development to expand the scope of our existing services.
• Performing other duties as required
• Evaluating and applying engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to assist in geoengineering design, data analysis of geotechnical investigations, construction engineering and project management.
• Carry out detailed engineering analysis, design and reporting for infrastructure and transportation projects.
• Conduct field investigations, site investigations, remediation, compliance and preparation of technical logs and reports.
• Coordination and liaison with field staff assigned MoPW related section and regional offices.
• Project coordination, management and geotechnical related execution tasks.
• Field inspections including footing, subgrade, compaction and excavation works,
• Preparation of laboratory samples and coordination with other MoPW geotechnical and analytical laboratories.
• Any other assignment as required by the supervisor.

Skills

• Highly proficient in design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, SAFE, STAAD Foundation and familiarity with GIS and other related software.
• Excellent Computer skills in operating MS Windows and MS Office programs.
• Demonstrated ability to training and build capacity of counterparts.
• Proven organizational, negotiation and problem solving skills.
• Be able and willing to travel to all provinces within Afghanistan, including insecure and volatile areas.
• Proficiency in English, Dari and Pashto (Reading, Writing and Speaking)
• Excellent interpersonal Skills
• Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
• Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
• Proven experience in analyzing ADT, AATD data and AASHTO design software.
• Self-discipline, integrity and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Job Requirements:

• NTA (5) five years’ experience and bachelor’s degree in relevant field Civil engineering, Road construction only
• Proven background in similar positions.
• Must have some technical knowledge.
