About DAI

DAI is implementing the USAID funded program Women in the Economy (WIE) across the five major population centers in the regional economic zones (Kabul, Mazar, Heart, Jalalabad and Kandahar) in Afghanistan. The primary objective of Women in the Economy is to enable educated Afghan women between the ages of 18 and 30 to increase their participation in the mainstream, formal economy by securing employment with advancement potential and by helping grow revenues for businesses owned by women or that employ women as 10% or more of their staffs.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician reports to the Operations Manager or his/her designee, and ensures regular maintenance of the guest house and project office, or reports those repairs which require outside service of electrical parts and ACs facilities, ensuring 24-hour power supply to project premises.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for maintenance of the electrical and plumbing systems in the WIE guest house and offices
• Stock management of generators, work tools. spare parts, oil filters and any other job-related tools.
• Be available for emergency generator fault handling
• Carry out works to project safety standards for all electricity services, including wiring and sizing standards and maintenance services
• Carry out the installation and maintenance of the electricity wiring and distribution systems
• Repair damaged pipes or other plumbing faults
• Check the guest houses AC’s once a week and replace any broken and/or damaged parts; clean the air filters, charge the units and refill gas.
• Replace spent light bulbs in rooms and any exterior lighting
• Regularly check carbon dioxide and smoke alarms in all premises and replace batteries and units as required
• Perform regular fire-extinguisher checks – ensuring all are in full working order and adding/replacing signage where required
• Ensure all electrical fittings are safe and compliant with project safety standards
• Ensure that exterior fittings are weather proof and professionally installed
• Work with the security team to replace/repair any cameras that need attention
• Fit and maintain furnishings , including but not limited to furniture, curtains, carpets
• Ensure septic tanks are emptied regularly
• Report any issues or damage/loss to the Operations Manager
• Other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager or his/her designee.


• Qualifications as a plumber and other trades (welding, carpentry, etc.) are an advantage


• 3 to 5 years’ experience in generator maintenance and electrical wiring
• Qualifications as a plumber and other trades (welding, carpentry, etc.) are an advantage
• Ability to read and write and communicate clearly (required for recording log books and reports)
• High School degree preferred.

• Fluency in Local languages (Pashto/Dari), Understanding English is a plus
