The Soybean: It’s a little seed with a lot of potential!
Did you know that one ton of soybean seeds can yield up to forty tons of consumable soy? Who would have thought that such a little bean could do so much? The harvest from one ton of soy can provide 10,000 families of six with enough protein for three months.
That is why Nutrition & Education International (NEI) is working with local farmers to develop a soy seed market in Afghanistan. A developed seed market can ensure the access to a reliable domestic source of protein.

Job Summary
This position will be responsible for soy farmer identification, educating farmers in field of soybean cultivation, production, soy home consumption and soy food culture development. This includes monitoring of soybean farm and assisting farmers technically in pest management and other agro technics including postharvest management. She will be responsible for well coordination with DAIL, Provincial Economic Department, DoWA for finding true beneficiaries and effective implementation of the project. She will also be responsible for effectively promoting home use of soybean and soy products and teaching beneficiaries soy recipes for home use which are adaptable to Afghan taste and food culture.

Duties and Responsibilities
Educate and assist farmers to produce for home consumption and market their harvest in excess to retail and instructional market, and prepare and conduct soy recipe training programs.
Develop methods to increase soybean production yields, improve quality as well as assist in preventing and solving problems with soil and soybeans.
Monitor soybeans cultivation by farmers to provide technical assistance in yields improvement during production.
Establish and manage demonstration farms for conducting experiments and seed multiplications.
Plan and carry out breeding studies at experiment station or farms to develop and improve crops respect to characteristic, such as yield, quality adaption, to specific soils or climates, and resistance to diseases to diseases and pests.
Develop method to promote soybean production for human nutrition and also animals feed.
Assist local entrepreneurs to develop soy processing sector and markets for soybean.
Develop methods for control of noxious weeds, crop diseases, and insect pets.
Serve as a liaison and manage relationship between NEI and relevant government agencies at provincial and district level, and other nonprofit & for- profit organizations.
Represent and promote the mission, values and efforts of NEI in any setting, including personal communication, news media appearance.

Qualifications
• Having 2years’ experience in the same filed.
• Having knowledge of English completely.
• Bachelor Degree Agriculture/ agronomy
• Excellent written and spoken Dari, Pashto and English
