About Afghanaid

Afghanaid is a British-registered international NGO, which has worked in Afghanistan for over 30 years. We assist community-driven processes that address the rights and fundamental needs of people in some of the most remote areas of Afghanistan, providing basic services, supporting development of rural livelihoods and responding to humanitarian emergencies. We are headquartered in Kabul, and operate 20 provincial and district offices across Badakhshan (north-eastern region), Samangan (northern region) and Ghor (western region), as well as a Marketing and Fundraising office in London. We employ around 160 personnel, 97% of whom are Afghans.

Job Summary

The Independent Consultant should be a suitably-qualified and experienced female individual consultant or a consulting firm. But the person conducting the ToT should be a female.
Duty station will be in Kabul but with required travel to Nangarhar and Logar
The Consultant will be required to complete the work over a proposed period of 5 working days. The resource person will indicate in the proposal the exact number of days s/he proposes for each Module to be discussed and agreed with Afghanaid.

The Consultant will need to be available around the beginning or mid of May 2018 to conduct the ToT.

Duties and Responsibilities

As per proposed on-farm activities in market assessment report the project has to conduct trainings on fruit and vegetable processing to its beneficiaries in Nangarhar and Loger, as one of the promising on-farm business for women in Afghanistan. The main purpose of hiring the consultant is to build the capacity of the team on Fruit and Vegetable processing through 5 days ToT. The incumbent will be responsible to provide professional training during the 5 days of consultancy. Types of vegetable available in LGR/NGR and required
Introduction to new types of vegetables for processing
Hygiene Importance of hygiene during the vegetable processing

Qualifications

The Independent Consultant should be a suitably-qualified and experienced female individual consultant or a consulting firm. But the person conducting the ToT should be a female.


Essential
a) Having bachelor degree in the related filed with at least 3-4 years of experience in fruit and vegetable processing.
b) At least 2 years of experience in conducting ToT or 3 years’ experience of conducting trainings on fruit and vegetable processing at the field level.
c) Practical knowledge of fruit and vegetable processing (Preparation Cleaning Processing of fruits vegetables and production of jam juices chutneys and other products and Packing).
d) Must have capacity building and facilitation skills
e) Must have small business management knowledge
f) Able to work independently with minimal supervision and support beside support in logistic arrangements
g) No conflict of interest with the ongoing activities of the commissioning organization
h) Excellent Pashto and Dari speaking skills

Desirable
a) Previous work experience in Afghanistan, or other conflict affected countries - particularly in remote areas
b) Willingness to stay and work in a very basic conditions during the assignment.
c) English speaking is an asset

3. Methodology
The selected consultant will be required to develop detailed methodology including a training plan reflecting times for theory and practical under each subject.
