About ( Ministry of Agriculture) AAIP Project

Building on the Agriculture Master Plan, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoA) in collaboration with its development partners has defined a number of appropriate priorities for agricultural investments and policies under the National Agricultural Development Framework (NADF). In order to increase farmers' incomes and improve the food security situation, the GoA is giving foremost attention to strengthening of the agricultural production base. In this respect the government has asked the World Bank for assistance in strengthening agricultural input supply Systems. Specifically, the GoA has requested the World Bank for assistance in the preparation of the Afghanistan Agriculture Inputs Project (AAIP) that will consist of the following four components: (i) Improve seed production and certification; (ii) Establish infrastructure and policies regarding quality control and safe use of fertilizers and agrochemicals; (iii) Improve input delivery systems; and (iv) Establish efficient project management, implementation and coordination mechanisms.
The development objective of AAIP project is to increase adoption of improved crop production technologies through expanding development of certified seeds and improving access to agricultural inputs of reliable quality.

Job Summary

He/she will work under the direct supervision of National Plant Protection Coordinator and MAIL/PPQD Director and will determine the level of Pesticides residues in agriculture produces by using various equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Standardization and operation of newly procured pesticide residue analytical equipment’s (Saxhlet apparatus, Rota vapor, Colum Chromate grapy, Centrifuge, GCMS, LCMS, HPLC etc).
 Development / adoption and standardization of fast and correct analytical methods / protocols for sample collection preservation, extraction, clean up and analysis of different known / unknown pesticides formulations of different classes / types from different matrices including fruits and vegetables.
 Reporting of the pesticides residue level of the tested samples of matrices including fruits and vegetables as compared to Codex (MRLS).
 Maintenance and minor trouble shooting of the equipment to keep them functional.
 Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annually reports for all sample tests conducted in (PRAL).
 Assist International Pesticide Residue chemist.
 Continuation of the prescribed activities of the laboratory
 Any other task assign by the (AAIP) Project director or P Coordinator.

Travels to Provinces

 Able to organize the pesticide residue Laboratory with an objective to ultimately qualify for international accreditation.
 Expertise in the use of equipments for determination of pesticides residues through HPLC,GCMS, LCMS,
 Knowledge of Pesticides residue level with the international standard
 Willing to work in difficult and challenging circumstances
 Good knowledge of computer and preparation of scientific writing
 Proficient in English, Pashto and Dari, in speaking, reading and writing
 Aware from the exposure of hazardous chemical
 Able to work independently


 Master degree in Agricultural Chemistry preferably with specialization in pesticides or B.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry / Chemistry / Plant Protection.
 Experience of 3 years with M.Sc. and 5 years with B.Sc. in Pesticides and / or Pesticides residue analysis.
