About ( Ministry of Agriculture) AAIP Project
Building on the Agriculture Master Plan, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoA) in collaboration with its development partners has defined a number of appropriate priorities for agricultural investments and policies under the National Agricultural Development Framework (NADF). In order to increase farmers' incomes and improve the food security situation, the GoA is giving foremost attention to strengthening of the agricultural production base. In this respect the government has asked the World Bank for assistance in strengthening agricultural input supply Systems. Specifically, the GoA has requested the World Bank for assistance in the preparation of the Afghanistan Agriculture Inputs Project (AAIP) that will consist of the following four components: (i) Improve seed production and certification; (ii) Establish infrastructure and policies regarding quality control and safe use of fertilizers and agrochemicals; (iii) Improve input delivery systems; and (iv) Establish efficient project management, implementation and coordination mechanisms.
The development objective of AAIP project is to increase adoption of improved crop production technologies through expanding development of certified seeds and improving access to agricultural inputs of reliable quality.
He/she will work under the direct supervision of National Plant Protection Coordinator and MAIL/PPQD Director and will use different approaches in lab for identification of plant damaging insects.

Duties and Responsibilities
Standardization and operation of newly procured Fluorescent/ stereomicroscope, ELISA reader etc in the lab
Adopt the taxonomy keys,publications / CD from CABIetc for insect pests identifications
Collection of appropriate methods of insect specimens, preserve properly and identify them after using taxonomic key, publication/CD from CABI or other source
Records keeping of all specimens refer to the Laboratory.
To organize and establish the Entomology Laboratory (Diagnostics equipments) with International standard
Acquire the above skill of diagnosis to train the others as well as to conduct of field collected specimens.
Continue carrying – out the prescribed activities of the Laboratory.
Assist International Entomology. Specialist / Consultant.
Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annually reports for all Specimens diagnosed in Entomology Laboratory.
Any other tasks assign by (AAIP) Project director or Laboratory Super visor.
Travels to Provinces
Require Travels to Provinces
Expertise in the use/operation of equipments require for entomology lab
Have knowledge about the identification and diagnostic materials of plant pest
Courteous and excellent communication and inter personal relation skills.
Expertise in the identification of plant pest in field level
Willing to work in difficult and challenging circumstances
Good knowledge of computer (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power point)
Proficient in English, Pashto and Dari, in speaking, reading and writing
Able to work independently
Master degree in Entomology having Specialization in insect Taxonomy (entomologist) or B.Sc. in Plant Protection / Entomology.
Experience of 3 years with M.Sc. and 5 years with B.Sc. in Entomology preferable with some experience of insect taxonomy.
