About ( Ministry of Agriculture) AAIP Project
Building on the Agriculture Master Plan, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoA) in collaboration with its development partners has defined a number of appropriate priorities for agricultural investments and policies under the National Agricultural Development Framework (NADF). In order to increase farmers' incomes and improve the food security situation, the GoA is giving foremost attention to strengthening of the agricultural production base. In this respect the government has asked the World Bank for assistance in strengthening agricultural input supply Systems. Specifically, the GoA has requested the World Bank for assistance in the preparation of the Afghanistan Agriculture Inputs Project (AAIP) that will consist of the following four components: (i) Improve seed production and certification; (ii) Establish infrastructure and policies regarding quality control and safe use of fertilizers and agrochemicals; (iii) Improve input delivery systems; and (iv) Establish efficient project management, implementation and coordination mechanisms.
The development objective of AAIP project is to increase adoption of improved crop production technologies through expanding development of certified seeds and improving access to agricultural inputs of reliable quality.
He/she will work under the direct supervision of National Plant Protection Coordinator and MAIL/PPQD Director and will do conventional and molecular techniques for identification of plant infecting fungi in lab.

Duties and Responsibilities
Perform lab analyses (isolation, purification microscopic and molecular (PCR) for detection/diagnosis of the suspected plant samples for fungal pathogens
Operationalize the equipment/instruments in the Plant Mycology lab e.g., Thermo cycler machine, Gel Electrophoresis set, calibration on Haemocytomere, Incubator, LFU etc.
Preparation of various types of fungal growth culture media
Establishment and maintenance of fungal culture bank in lab
Preparation of permanent slides form the purified fungal culture
Cooperation with International Plant Mycologist working in Plant Fungal Diseases testing lab located at BadamBagh.
Record keeping of all sample tests conducted on Plant Fungus for detection/ diagnosis in lab
Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annually reports for all sample tests conducted in lab using various techniques.
Preparation of booklet on control of important fungal diseases in various crops and fruits of Afghanistan in co-operation with the International Plant Mycologist
Guide farmers to control/manage the fungal disease in crops and fruits and vegetables
Proper disposal of the infected sample after the diagnosis
Any other task assign by Project Director or concern coordinator.
Travels to Provinces
Require Travels to Provinces
Familiarity with the conventional and modern techniques (PCR etc) used in detection and diagnosis of fungal diseases in samples
Expertise in isolation and purification and maintenance of fungal culture in lab
Excellent in scientific report writing and reporting to the concern agency
Knowledge of fungal diseases of fruits, crops and vegetables in considering the Afghanistan Agriculture condition
Courteous and excellent communication and inter personal relation skills.
Knowledge of selection, handling of equipment and chemicals required in plant Mycology lab
Good knowledge of computer (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power point)
Proficient in English, Pashto and Dari, in speaking, reading and writing
Willing to work in difficult and challenging circumstances
Able to work independently
Master Degree in Mycology -Plant Pathology with minimum of 3 years working experience in the area of Detection and Diagnosisof fungal diseases incrops, fruits and seeds will be preferred. or
B.Sc (H) in Mycology -Plant Pathology with minimum of 5years working experience in the aforementioned area.
