About ( Ministry of Agriculture) AAIP Project
Building on the Agriculture Master Plan, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (GoA) in collaboration with its development partners has defined a number of appropriate priorities for agricultural investments and policies under the National Agricultural Development Framework (NADF). In order to increase farmers' incomes and improve the food security situation, the GoA is giving foremost attention to strengthening of the agricultural production base. In this respect the government has asked the World Bank for assistance in strengthening agricultural input supply Systems. Specifically, the GoA has requested the World Bank for assistance in the preparation of the Afghanistan Agriculture Inputs Project (AAIP) that will consist of the following four components: (i) Improve seed production and certification; (ii) Establish infrastructure and policies regarding quality control and safe use of fertilizers and agrochemicals; (iii) Improve input delivery systems; and (iv) Establish efficient project management, implementation and coordination mechanisms.
The development objective of AAIP project is to increase adoption of improved crop production technologies through expanding development of certified seeds and improving access to agricultural inputs of reliable quality.
He/she will work under the direct supervision of National Plant Protection Coordinator and MAIL/PPQD Director and perform conventional, bio-chemical and molecular techniques for diagnosis of Plant viruses in plants and seeds etc.

Duties and Responsibilities
Perform ELISA, DAS-ELISA, TAS-ELISA, PCR, and RT-PCR for the suspected plant samples for virus detection and diagnosis.
Operationalize the equipments/instruments in the Plant Virology lab e.g., Thermo cycler machine, ELISA Reader, Gel Electrophoresis set etc.
Rearing of insects which can serve as vector for transmission of plant viruses
Support the International Plant Virologist working in Plant Viral Diseases testing lab located at BadamBagh.
Record keeping of all sample tests conducted on Plant Virus for detection/ diagnosis in lab
Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annually reports for all sample tests conducted in lab using various techniques.
Preparation of booklet on control of important viral diseases in various crops and fruits of Afghanistan in co-operation with the International Plant Virologist
Proper disposal of the infected sample after the diagnosis
Guide farmers to control viral disease in crops and fruits
Any other task assign by Project Director or concern coordinator.
Travels to Provinces
Require Travels to Provinces
Expertise in bio-assay, serological and molecular techniques for detection and diagnosis of plant viruses
Basic knowledge on insect rearing which can serve vector for plant viruses
Excellent in scientific report writing and deliverable to the agency
Courteous and excellent communication and inter personal relation skills.
Knowledge of viral diseases of fruits, crops and vegetables in content to the Afghanistan
Knowledge of selection, handling of equipments and chemicals required in plant virology lab
Good knowledge of computer (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power point)
Proficient in English, Pashto and Dari, in speaking, reading and writing
Willing to work in difficult and challenging circumstances
Able to work independently
Master Degree in Virology -Plant Pathology with minimum of 3 years working experience in the area of Detection and Diagnosis of plant viruses in crops, fruits and seeds will be preferred. or
B.Sc (H) in Virology -Plant Pathology with minimum of 5years working experience in the aforementioned area.
Have enough experience in utilizing the equipments used for detection of plant virus e.g. PCR, ELISA etc.
