-Background
The Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) is an in-service training program in applied epidemiology and public health practice modeled after Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS). GHD, with the financial support of CDC, is establishing an FETP specifically designed for Afghanistan. This program is intended to establish a sustainable human resource development capacity in the country that is ultimately owned and led by the country. The Intermediate FETP (a one-year program) will focus on public health professionals involved in polio and immunization activities. The program will be within the Afghanistan Public Health Institute (ANPHI), an educational institute within Afghanistan MoPH.
Primary Purpose
The TA (Technical Advisor) position will be technically supporting the Afghanistan FETP program of MoPH. The intended effect resulting from this support will be strengthened capabilities to address public health surveillance and epidemiology-related priorities through capacity building activities offered by the FETP.
Job Summary
This is a key technical position with the overall responsibility for the program. The TA is expected to closely collaborate with the Director in conducting day-to-day and strategic activities. Given its key technical role and its critical importance for the program, this position will be hired by the Joint Oversight Committee as outline above. His/her roles and responsibilities include:

Duties and Responsibilities
Roles and Responsibilities
• Participate in trainee selection
• Monitor and evaluate activities at each field site
• Assist the FETP Director with any tasks and activities as deemed necessary
• Be able to travel to provinces for the required field supervision as well as accompany fellows in international conferences.

Qualifications
Education
Essential: Medical doctor with postgraduate training in public health and epidemiology from a recognized university or graduates from EIS/EPIET/FETP.
Desirable: Experience in coordination/design/implementation of training programs.
Experience
Essential: At least 5 years’ experience in public health and epidemiology services.
Desirable: Experience in designing/delivering/implementing field epidemiology training programs.
Languages
Fluent in English and both local Afghan languages (Dari and Pashto)
Qualifications
The following qualifications are preferred:
• A medical graduate with MPH (master in public health). PhD in public health is preferred.
• A graduate or staff member of an FETP or EIS
• At least 5-year experience in epidemiology/public health.
• Training experience in epidemiology/public health.
• Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation of scientific papers at conferences, and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Literate in computer software including word processing, database, spreadsheets, statistical packages, and the Internet.
• Evidence of good interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.
• Experience in training of trainers (TOT) programs
• The applicant should be an Afghan National
