Afghanaid is a British-registered international NGO, which has worked in Afghanistan for over 30 years. We assist community-driven processes that address the rights and fundamental needs of people in some of the most remote areas of Afghanistan, providing basic services, supporting development of rural livelihoods and responding to humanitarian emergencies. We are headquartered in Kabul, and operate 20 provincial and district offices across Badakhshan (north-eastern region), Samangan (northern region) and Ghor (western region), as well as a Marketing and Fundraising office in London. We employ around 160 personnel, 97% of whom are Afghans.

Job Summary

Afghanaid is looking for a reliable Maintenance Consultant to oversee all installation, maintains electrical systems, plumbing and carpentry by ensuring the smooth electrical power and equipment; offering engineering support, repair and upkeep operations of the Organisation facilities. The Maintenance consultant will be the one to ensure that we have the best physical resources available to respond to the emerging technical needs.

A maintenance consultant should have a solid understanding of HO and SH Electric, and plumbing systems along with carpentry. They will be well-versed in all maintenance process and health and safety regulations. The goal is to ensure the Organisational facilities are sound for and adequate to support the Organisation operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• To assist with minor repairs and defects of the equipment, plant and buildings, as and when required.
• To be fully conversant with the requirements of Health and Safety, both in discharging duties personally, and with effect to the duty of care to staff and users.
• To maintain proper written records on all matters appertaining to regular maintenance procedures, in all areas of responsibilities. To prepare verbal and written reports as necessary and to attend meetings as directed by the Line Managers.
• Assists as directed in the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems, such as; plumbing, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, automatic temperature control, carpentry and electrical.
• Supervise and direct the work of custodial staff and volunteers; creates regular periodic cleaning and maintenance schedules.
• May be responsible for maintaining routine and specialized equipment warranties and maintenance agreements for machinery and equipment within the office.
• Oversees the annual cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly safety checks throughout the facility to ensure a safe and clean environment.
• Assists departments with exterior and interior needs.
• Perform duty as a carpenter while needed for office furniture fixing and repairing.
• Keep cleaning the generators and fuel tanks in office and guests.
• Clean debris and dust from the assigned areas
• Perform both major and minor repair work around the building such as repairing locks and installing window blinds
• Replace broken windows and door locks
• Move furniture and equipment upon instruction
• Install and repair electric wiring and replace bulbs and capacitor
• Maintain the overall condition of the building and grounds
• Perform inspection of the premises and ensure that any hazardous conditions are immediately taken care of


• Associate degree from vocational/technical institute will be and advantage
• 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position with national and/or international organizations.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in Pashto and Dari/or English.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a complex and rapidly changing environment; excellent interpersonal skills
• Negotiation and decision making skills
