Established in 1944, the WBG is one of the world’s largest sources of funding and knowledge for development solutions. The vision of the WBG is to eradicate extreme poverty by reducing the number of people living on less than $1.90 a day to 3 percent by 2030 and promote shared prosperity by fostering the income growth of the bottom 40 percent in every country. To achieve this vision, our strategy has three components: (1) maximizing development impact by engaging country clients in identifying and tackling the most difficult development challenges; (2) promoting scaled-up partnerships that are strategically aligned with the goals; and (3) crowding in public and private resources, expertise and ideas.


Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world with a GDP per capita of about USD700 and significant human challenges. While the main issue Afghanistan is facing is the on-going conflict, fiscal and economic challenges are very pronounced and represent an important source of fragility for the country.

The World Bank Group’s engagement in Afghanistan is significant. The World Bank provides roughly USD 900 million in grants to the government each year through the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF), one of the largest multi-donor trust funds managed by the World Bank. In addition, IDA assistance amounts to US$ 300 million annually. Operations are fully decentralized and are largely managed by Task Team Leaders based either in the Kabul office (with about 90 staff) or in Dubai (about 15 staff). The first Country Partnership Framework for Afghanistan was approved in late October 2016 and lays out an ambitious 4-year program aligned with the 2017-2020 Afghanistan National Peace and Development Framework and associated National Priority Programs.

The Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund (ARTF) ( is a recipient-executed World Bank Managed Multi-Donor Trust Fund established in 2002. The ARTF is Afghanistan’s main multi-donor mechanism for non-security on-budget assistance. It is an important vehicle for donors to channel funding into the country and to meet international commitments on donor coherence and the use of country systems. The ARTF has been behind some of the main development achievements in Afghanistan and is a valued partnership platform for the Government of Afghanistan.

The Country Management Unit (CMU) of the World Bank Kabul Office is responsible for overseeing the formulation and implementation of the World Bank's Country Partnership Framework for Afghanistan and the Partnership Framework and Financing Program for the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund.

The CMU is seeking to hire a well-organized, proactive and motivated individual for the position of Team Assistant to provide administrative support to the teams in Kabul Country Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide administrative support to the assigned supervisors and work collaboratively with members of the immediate work team.
• Use word processing, excel to produce complex text, reports, graphs, presentations, etc. Incorporate feedback into documents, making full use of shared drives and other software capabilities.
• Assist in preparation and logistical planning for various events, e.g. conferences, workshops, internal and external meetings with clients and donors, audio and video conference etc.
• Assist members of the team on all issues related to Travel Requests and Statement of expenditures (SOEs), in compliance with the institutional procedures in effect and provide backup support for traveling staff.
• Organize and maintain an electronic (WBDocs) filing system.
• Demonstrate skills in retrieving, gathering and obtaining information from various sources (internet, the portal, intranet, Bank libraries, etc.) and transferring the information in a usable format.
• Update mission schedules, monitors changes and communicates necessary information to appropriate staff.
• Compile reports/ presentations and other project related documentation and assist in the drafting of transmittal letters.
• Maintain current distribution lists, phone addresses of key contacts and distributes documents to relevant team members.
• Assist in drafting, editing and finalizing routine correspondence, memos, letters, faxes and various reports and documents, ensuring compliance with World Bank correspondence format, and procedures, and proofreading materials using proper grammar, punctuation, and style in English.
• Provide back-up support to other ACS staff in the office during absence or peak load time.
• Download different Trust Fund reports using bank’s portal and SAP.
• Undertake other ad-hoc duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria
• High school diploma with 2 years of experience in an international/multinational organization or equivalent combination of education and experience, BA preferred;
• Ability to pass relevant Bank tests, as required;
• Knowledge of/ability to perform diverse and intricate work routines that are specific in objective;
• Excellent command of English language, both written and oral;
• Computer proficient and fully conversant with standard word-processing software, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint;
• Effective Organizational skills and ability to prioritize assignments;
• Demonstrate resourcefulness on the job to develop practical approaches that improve office support work;
• Strong inter-personal skills and commitment to work in a team-oriented, multi-cultural environment.
