Job Summary:

Being a TechWomen Afghanistan General Manager (GM) is quite a challenging role, because it does not have just one specific job description, but many. This document, however, helps the candidate understand some of these various roles, so she can prioritize activities and understand the type of questions she will need to address as TechWomen Afghanistan grows. The General Manager will need to work overtime when needed and take domestic and international travels.

The GM shall have general responsibilities and specific responsibilities. She is expected to own a functional area over time. This helps her develop the skills in that area in a focused manner and work on responsibilities accordingly.

The general manager directs and coordinates activities of one or more departments, such as communication and PR, marketing and sales, membership and community engagement, portals and e-platforms, or a major division of the business organization and aids chief operating officers in formulating and administering organization policies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1) Organizational Policies and Strategy
- Develop and execute overall organizational strategy and planning, including strategies for the growth and development of TechWomen Afghanistan
- Analyze, research, recommend, and implement processes and systems
- Develop and execute service and production strategies
- In accordance with TechWomen Afghanistan objectives, develop and monitor research plans and budgets for R&D projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within cost objectives
- Direct the research and development (R&D) activities, from new product proposal to commercialization
- Support leadership in formulating policies and projects and making policies recommendations;

2) Program Design and Implementation
- Develop, monitor, manage, and evaluate small and medium size projects and support activities
- Responsible for a portfolio of program initiative projects in the range of 5-30 small and mid sized projects
- Liaise with program colleagues in Kabul, provinces and abroad on issues of project development and management
- Assist senior team members in the identifying, developing and managing contacts with partner institutions and other international agencies
- Assist in revenue generation by preparing reports to partners, co-funders and donors

3) Marketing and Communication
- Safeguard and promote corporate image of TechWomen Afghanistan
- Oversee the network communication, including email communications, mass communications with email blasts, e-newsletters, and marketing campaigns;
- Define, refine and ensure consistent framing of, core messaging to ensure organizational consistency in all aspects of communication including development, organizing and education
- Advocate brand with the media and external stakeholders across all communications channels and vehicles
- Develop media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media
- Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts within business and industry media
- Oversee the development of media kits, press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations
- Oversee publications, including newsletter, an editorial and commercial success by defining the editorial position and providing high quality material to the readership
- Represent the network at national and international conferences and public events, such as speaking at conferences, workshops and exhibitions on tech and related disciplines
- Document presence of the network at events, conferences, and speaking engagements
- Oversee coordination of all public relations activities
- Build relationships with thought leaders to grow industry awareness
- Develop a marketing communications plan including strategy, goals, budget and tactics
- Help in establishing a direction and market position of the network
- Monitor, analyze and communicate marketing, communication and PR results on a quarterly basis;
- Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting clients and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy surrounding them
- Collaborate with marketing and business development teams to develop the advertising, marketing and promotion plans
- Produce marketing and promotion strategies, plans and content and implement it in a planned manner to reach different class of customers
- Oversee the network portals, publishing content (e.g. text, video, graphic and photography) on the portals, websites and blogs
- Oversee promotion of the network and its activities across various social media, traditional and new media.

4) Coordinating, Managing and Direction
- Oversee budgets and financials, prepare financial report for effective management & clearly showing operational effectiveness by her efforts
- Take part in reviewing insurance, banking, auditing and other board related aspects of the company
- Manage the program effectively, efficiently to enhance performance, increase impact and ensure growth and development
- Create and communicate values, goals and objectives, policies and strategies to help achieve the program goals
- Increase management effectiveness by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff as well as assigning responsibilities
- Plan, monitor, and appraise job results, developing incentives, developing a climate for offering information and opinions
- Plan and assign work to subordinates and monitor them from time to time
- Collaborate with the co-founders and other teams in growing a strong, integrated, and sustainable organization
- Drive accountability, consistency, quality, and process standardization across all phases of research and development
- Create and provide educational opportunities for program staff and participants
- Understand and resolve issues, challenges of the program and its staff and stakeholders face

5) Business Development, Fundraising and Partnerships
- Evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising on an ongoing basis;
- Direct the business development activities of the network and drives new sales and business for the network
- Responsible for the overall management of all strategic and operational marketing and customer relationship activities
- Provide market feedback to the network and parent company leadership team regarding competitive offerings, prospect needs and generate content and product development ideas
- Drive increased revenue and profit to achieve the TechWomen Afghanistan`s ambitious growth
- Work to stringent targets, adopt a professional and knowledgeable approach to each new business call
- Plan and coordinate the implementation of business plans and the penetration of new markets
- Develop business plan to help shape the future of the network
- Fundraise and source sponsorships to help the network generate revenue and get funded by investors
- Create network of partners and collaborators for TechWomen Afghanistan
- Plan & review marketing, financial, PR and program activities, results and expectations with employees on regular basis

6) Membership, Community Building and Engagement
- Develop sound relationships with stakeholders, funders and community in order to gain mutual benefits;
- Build the network image by collaborating with members, customers, government, community organizations, and employees; enforcing ethical business practices
- Grow online supporter base and traffic
- Perform social media community management duties, and build and sustain online communities
- Maintain effective member, stakeholder and audience relations management using a CRM

7) Other Expectations
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned and needed for the growth, development and smooth operation of TechWomen Afghanistan/ TechNation.
