JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of Provincial Manager, the Agronomist is responsible for handling of agriculture activities as directed by his/her supervisors for ARD ADP/SW.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
• Supervise Implementation of Agriculture project according to the work plans;
• The evaluation of the needs of the farmers in the target areas, and selection of the beneficiaries;
• Designing of the training curriculum and materials;
• Technical training of team leaders and Extension Workers and targeted farmers, especially for subjects related to orchards layout and trellised vineyards;
• Follow best practices in conservation agriculture, effects of badly chosen tillage practices and zero tillage benefits, vegetable and cereal crops, animal feed crops.
• Controlling technical activities such as irrigation, weeding, pruning, grafting as well as preparing grafting materials on time;
• Developing of intercropping for the targeted beneficiaries in orchards layout and trellised vineyards.
• Conducting the training for the farmers in the field and training center;
• Follow up of team leaders and extension workers in the field;
• Reporting to the provincial manager;
• Writing monthly work plan and activities reports;
• Liaise with the rural development department and NGOs working in the field of agriculture
• Any other task assigned by your supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS: (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS)
EDUCATION: B.S. in Forestry or Horticulture/Agriculture faculty.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2-3 years experience in an equivalent position with international organizations. Experience in the management of development programs involving rural communities and sustainable development. Good managerial and supervisory skills with notable experience in project management of donor based project inside Afghanistan. Work experience in USAID funded project a plus.
SKILLS: To be able to organize the training programs as per requirement of the project Working knowledge of English. Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for colleagues. Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team. Must also be able to create a supportive working relationship among all project teams.
LANGUAGES: Spoken and written Dari, Pashto, English.
GENERAL: Tactfulness, enthusiasm for the job, good human relation skills, integrity, and ability to work under pressure.
