The Foundation's work in Afghanistan focuses in particular on the exchange of ideas and discussion on the following topics: youth and politics, political participation of women and gender mainstreaming, conflict transformation and reconciliation, media and freedom of speech, strengthening civil society, parliamentary and provincial council.
The Foundation's activities are conducted mostly in collaboration with local non-governmental organizations and relevant state agencies through various events such seminars, workshops, round-table discussions, trainings and publications. You can browse through our publications and digital library from our website. FES Afghanistan also supports international dialogue by supporting the exchange of delegations, experts, academics and senior journalists in the region and around the globe.
The “Young Leaders Forum” (YLF) was initiated in 2004, only two years after Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Afghanistan had opened its doors. Since then we have trained more than 300 outstanding Afghan next generation leaders from all walks of life - many of them have since used the skills and values promoted in the program to empower communities, shape the image of Afghanistan in the world and create a better future for everyone. We strive to empower young people taking responsibility in civil society and encourage civil engagement through capacity building, conferences and dialogue platforms for Afghanistan's future leaders!
