Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Duties

The Business Verification and Training Officer is responsible for the registration and training of Afghan-owned businesses throughout Nangarhar province. S/he oversees the delivery of two of PDT’s core services, verification or businesses for inclusion in the online business portal and procurement training. S/he reports directly to the Jalalabad Provincial Manager and liaises with the Kabul-based Training Manager.

Verification

• Verify existing business information and collect additional information for inclusion of business on http://afghanistan.BuildingMarkets.org by:
o Setting of verification appointments in order to visit companies;
o Visiting companies to fill out business questionnaires/assess companies;
o Continuous improvement of strategies and tools for the verification;
• Information Management
o Assuring accurate tracking of businesses for future and past verification;
o Assuring data quality of collected verification data;
o Internal reporting;
• Market PDM-A’s services to local suppliers;
• Represent PDM-A at events, including trade fairs, meetings, etc.;
• Conduct any other duties as assigned by the Provincial Manager.

Training

• Manage an effective training program in Nangarhar province;
• Read and understand the Afghanistan Procurement Law and Rules of Procedure, international buyers’ procurement policies, and training curriculum material;
• In close coordination with Jalalabad Field Manager, Jalalabad Provincial Manager, and PDT’s Training Manager, develop training modules for special procurement requirements of international buyers;
• Develop key relationships with partner organizations and companies that will co-implement and assist as trainers in the training program;
• Conduct training pre-assessment and selection of businesses;
• Conduct sector-specific research on procurement and assist in drafting sector training modules;
• Facilitate workshops and provide instruction on key procurement topics;
• Conduct immediate and long-term post-workshop evaluation and draft reports;
• Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to PDT and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission in Afghanistan;
• Facilitate sector-specific networking events in Jalalabad to connect suppliers with buyers;
• Participate in skills/team training with Jalalabad Field Manager or Jalalabad Provincial Manager;
• Fulfill any other duties related to the job assigned by supervisors when needed.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree preferred, at a minimum high school graduate/enrolled in advanced degree program;
• Experience in teaching/instructing, prefereably to adults;
• In-depth knowledge of Afghan business sectors, particularly the Jalalabad business environment;
• Knowledge of basic national and international procurment policies;
• Fluent in Pashto and good command of English and Dubai, both orally and written;
• Solid translation skills (From English to Pashto), to include typing;
• Excellent communication and networking skills;
• Strong organization and data management skills;
• Experience managing multiple relationships;
• Creative mindset and ability to structure and find solutions to complex problems;
• Energetic and efficient, result oriented;
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and in a team.
