• The Casework Assistant will work in an office of the NRC Information, Counselling and Legal Aid Project in Afghanistan according to and as reflected in the objectives and goals stated in the project description and budgets to donors and in line with the NRC Policy Program and current Plan of Action and Strategy for the region.
• The employee shall represent and promote the interests of NRC through the implementation of the projects and through advocacy work on behalf of refugees, returnees and internally displaced persons.
• The Casework Assistant shall support the Legal and information counsellors to provide free advice and information to returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) consistent with applicable laws and procedures and NRC’s standard operating procedures and instructions;
• The Assistant shall keep track of case progress and liaise with responsible LCs on necessary activities to be taken;
• The Assistant shall follow up the referred cases with the relevant ILAC weekly basis to update client’s file and client;
• The Assistant shall generate weekly activity and inactivity reports and attend the weekly legal case conferences to report;
• The Assistant shall input the information cases in the database;
• The Assistant shall remain updated on legislation and social/legal developments in Afghanistan;
• The Assistant shall register accurately cases in the electronic database;
• The Assistant shall maintain and update hard copy files of documents and maintain an accessible filing system for use by the Advocates;
• The Assistant shall make translations of notes and documents into English, Dari and Pashto;
• The Assistant shall prepare draft official letters,
• The Assistant shall do all computer relevant works and clerical works in office;
• The Assistant shall participate in preparation of monthly reports, thematic reports, and correspondence with government officials and international organizations;
• Assistant shall participate in NRC staff seminars and training, when scheduled;
• The Assistant shall provide regular trainings to all staff on database updates;
• The Assistant shall help distribute information important to the work of other offices;
• The Assistant shall help exchange of information with relevant external actors;
• The Assistant shall at all times respect the anonymity of clients approaching NRC and the confidentiality of information received from any clients;
• The Assistant shall provide assistance and capacity building to staff with low computer literacy;
• Any other reasonable tasks as instructed by immediate superior.
• University Degree in Law (High School graduation (minimum);
• Familiarity with legal terminology;
• Minimum 2 years of experience in same field;
• Full command of computer and English Language;
• Sufficient knowledge of the potential applications of the database (such as printing reports);
• General IT knowledge;
• Good standard of written and spoken local languages;
• Previous working experience with UN, NGO’s or Govt;
• Ability of taking on further responsibilities;
• Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
