Job Summary:
The position announced is related to urban shelter assessment run along Kabul city to facilitate the voluntary return of refugees from Pakistan, IDPs and vulnerable host communities improving their basic living conditions by: offering technical assistance, shelter package (construction material and cash), community mobilization and hygiene training.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of urban shelter consultant, the Civil engineer – Urban Shelter will perform the following duties:
• Desk study of relevant documents;
• Visit urban settlements in Kabul and interview returnees/IDPs;
• Interview relevant stakeholders for urban shelter needs and opportunities;
• Participate in Assessment report and concept paper;
• Produce reports on weekly and monthly base;
• Remain updated on technical and legal considerations (national laws, standards and codes);
• Operate field equipment, radio etc;
• Any other tasks as assigned by the urban shelter consultant.
Sectors and activities with specific responsibilities
• Assessment on site. Kabul city assessment, needs, site selection
• Beneficiary selection. Identify vulnerable families eligible for shelter assistance according to established selection criteria
• Procurement. Provide technical advice on shelter items. Design. Advise on shelter end latrine design
Job Requirement:
• University Degree in Civil Engineering
• Auto cad knowledge
Skills
• Experience with Urban shelter standards
• Previous work experience with a satisfactory performance in the same or similar functional area preferably with UN or INGOs
• Knowledge of international standards code for building material and testing
• Excellent communication skills
• Computer literacy
• Fluency in English and Farci
