Job Summary

To undertake the planning, development and delivery of the DCDA internal and external communications including website, monthly and quarterly reports, brochures and flyers and to contribute wider policy of communications DCDA’s work plan and activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Seek and maintain active relations with national and international media and create and regularly update a media database
• Produce materials for use within the DCDA network, such as relevant articles for use on websites, newsletters, etc., as well as oversee the gathering/creation of multimedia materials, such as photo stories, pod-casts, video clips for use on website (actual production can be performed elsewhere within DCDA);
• Assist translation and publication of DCDA international materials related to Access issues that to be used in Afghanistan
• Manage media inquiries in cooperation with the advocacy advisor and other communication team members
• Prepares the daily and weekly news for the DCDA website and weekly newspaper
• Develops and updates
• Drafts and issues press release, information notes and written material for dissemination to local and international media
• Manages press conferences
• Provides communication materials
• Organizes, coordinate and prepare agendas for the meetings and taking meeting minutes
• Develops a tracking mechanism of reporting regarding the past and upcoming activities of DCDA
• Works with designing and marketing departments to print materials (such as banners, brochures, posters, business cards and etc.)
• Summarizes and submits program highlights on weekly basis in collaboration with regional office management and technical staff
• Drafts comprehensive monthly and quarterly reports
• Prepares the annual report of DCDA activities
• Participates in the development and implementation of a communication strategy for DCDA that increases the exposure of the range of DCDA’s activities to the national and international donors and the government of Afghanistan
• Performs interpretation services in the press conferences and when needed.
• Represents DCDA in the news briefings, press conferences and TV interviews.

Job Requirements

The incumbent must have at least:

• Bachelor degree in journalism or in communication from a credible University. Master degree in the relevant field will be an advantage
• 2 to 3 years previous work experience with a satisfactory performance in the same or similar functional area preferably with Private Sector, Civil Society Local Government, UN or World Bank.
• At least three years work experience in media advocacy, journalism or related sectors;
• Proven analytical, writing and communication skills
• Proven skills in developing media strategies, event planning and project implementation;
• Solid understanding of media policies and mechanisms in Afghanistan
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting;
• Ability to work under pressure and with strict deadlines;
• Self-motivation, excellent organizational skills, flexibility and creativity
• Willingness to travel;
• Experience working in a multicultural context a plus.
• Clear context to humanitarian work.
• Demonstrated extensive professional experience at senior level of management is ideal.
• Demonstrated extensive professional experience at senior level of Legal Activities will be ideal
• Demonstrated strategic skills and the ability to link macro and sect oral issues in an integrated way
• Demonstrated experience in the management and supervision of staff.
• Media awareness raising experience
• A strong capacity of analysis and information management
