The post holder will be report to the Coordinator of the national secretariat, while he/ she will have close collaboration with the Communication/ Information Management Specialist of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)
1. Ensure that the priorities of the FSN Policy and Strategic Framework are widely understood, both by government officials across the public sector and by the citizens and other stakeholders of the country, in order to maintain continued political and popular support for government efforts to address food and nutrition insecurity;
2. Establish communication channels at the centre and periphery (i.e. national and sub-national) levels through which individuals and civil society organizations in the country can make known to the High Level FSN Steering Committee their opinions on food and nutrition security priorities and programming, particularly where necessary public goods and services are not being delivered as they should;
3. Develop communications and media strategy, including production of communication materials, brochures, briefs and other information materials to be made available and widely circulated; Where feasible and appropriate, include the use of social media platforms as part of any communications strategy;
4. Establish the contact with media networks, facilitate the drafting of common media messages coherent with common policy messages facilitated through FSNSC; and coordinate the press during events and various meetings of FSNSC;
5. Regularly communicate the current food and nutrition security situation in the country using diverse media to disseminate information provided by stakeholders and the FNS Secretariat; and
6. Support meeting organization, prepare background documents, agenda, take minutes and follow up on action points;
7. Facilitate written translation and oral interpretation services for Steering Committee meetings.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Candidates for this position will have obtained a university degree in communications or a related discipline, and have at least three years of experience in communications, media relations, etc. and a demonstrated capability to develop quality communications products (portfolio of previous communications products). Knowledge of food and nutrition security issues and work experience in this area would be an asset. He/she must have the ability and technical skills in writing of meeting minutes, required official letters and documents, and should be familiar with the official writing principles.
