Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit (AREU), Multi Location
AREU is currently looking for a Communications Assistant.
The Communications Assistant will be based in Kabul and will report to the Communications and Advocacy Manager.
Publications inventory and distribution
• Ensure that written and soft copy records are kept of all transactions related to publications printing, according to correct procedure;
• Work with the publications assistant to maintain accurate records of the inventory, keeping the Publications Inventory database updated;
• Send publication announcements to email list of contacts, maintain and expand list with updated contacts on a continuous basis;
• Work with the publications assistant to assure that Publications Room and Reception Area are both kept stocked with recent AREU publications. Keep Publications Room an ordered and attractive area for visitors;
• Manage and monitor the hard copy distribution of publications: update hard copy contacts according to feedback from delivery agents, verify deliveries via phone follow-up;
• Sell A to Z guides (to visitors and by special order), keeping records of purchases and liaising with Finance to reconcile records;
• Maintain database of A to Z contacts and hardcopy distribution and update on an ongoing basis;
• Liaise with outside resellers of the A to Z (booksellers).
Coordinating provincial satellite presence:
• Primary focal point in communication with provincial counterparts, especially arranging deliveries of new publications;
• This will require occasional travel to provinces where AREU has, or is in the process of establishing, a satellite presence for publications and outreach;
• Liaison between provincial counterpart and researchers planning provincial-level activities;
• Assist the senior communications assistant in organizing and delivering training to staff in the provincial satellites on AREU research and publications.
Other responsibilities include:
• Provide support as required in organizing events and liaising with the press;
• Other outreach and representation of AREU from time-to-time;
• Other tasks that support the department, as assigned by the supervisor.
• Friendly and professional conduct with all people;
• Excellent verbal and written skills in Dari, Pashto and English;
• Ability to manage time and multi-task;
• Able to work well individually and as part of a team;
• Able to work on evenings and weekends on occasion (as required due to scheduling of events)
• Typing skills are an advantage;
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access;
• Basic internet skills;
• Some previous experience of communications-related activities, such as working with the public, publications, events, and/or media;
• Some previous administrative experience;
• Ability to travel occasionally to provinces and stay for brief periods.
