Job Summary

ï‚§ Responsible for supporting the Oracle databases and ensuring their performance, High availability, security and Data guard.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.
• Responsible for monitoring , checking and administering the Oracle RAC and Data guard
• Work with the team to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance.
• To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
• Responsible for providing trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
• Responsible for problem escalation to Oracle Development team and third parties as appropriate.
• Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
• Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team
• 24/7 support of production database services to ensure the highest standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security and performance required by our business systems.
• Respond quickly and effectively to production issues, taking responsibility for seeing those issues through to resolution.
• Work with Data Center Operations personnel to make sure that all databases and database applications are working properly and are optimized for performance.
• Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, and other distributed data issues.
• Monitor databases for errors and perform problem determination when necessary.
• Assist in the definition and implementation of database standards.
• Monitors all key operational system metrics and provide monthly reporting of those metrics to management.
• Develop database procedures, triggers and SQL scripts for operational team use.
• Share knowledge by effectively documenting work
• Stay current with changes in the technical area of expertise
• Performance monitoring, reporting, and tuning of Oracle databases.
• Management and maintenance of back-ups and recovery procedures.
• Installation and maintenance of database server, replication and client environments.
• Reviewing and tuning SQL and PL/SQL code.
• Designing database packages and procedures and Security and access control.
• Provision of support and assistance to development team in the design, development,
• testing, tuning and implementation of database application
• Creation and maintenance of SQL queries and routines
• Provisioning of (database) development and testing environments.
• Writing ad-hoc queries based on schema knowledge for various reporting requirements. Writing / Tuning data ingestion procedures from external suppliers and partners using PL/SQL, sql loader, 3 party tools eg. Toad etc.
• Required to deal with complex data models and object relational database mapping while producing complex reports

Job Requirements

• Proven Oracle Database Administration experience.
• Experience of managing multiple RDBMS on large systems
• Experience of working in a team that delivers a high availability service.
• Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service.
• Experience of other database systems, preferably SQL Server
• Practical experience in managing the internal and external MS SQL database security
• Practical Experience and knowledge of Administrating the Oracle Data guard in RAC environment
• 3-5+ years as a Production Oracle DBA in a UNIX environment, preferably AIX
• In-depth knowledge of Oracle 9i, 10g and 11g in a standalone and RAC environment
• Expert use of RMAN for Backup and Recovery.
• Expert performance tuning of production Oracle databases.
• Theoretical knowledge for the DR scenarios and decision making while facing the Disaster recovery issues
• Experience creating and migrating Oracle databases.
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL development experience
• In-depth knowledge of Oracle tools / utilities such as RMAN, import/export
• Working knowledge of UNIX platform including scripting, editors, etc
• Working knowledge and understanding of software development technologies, methodologies, and associated tools
• In-depth knowledge of Oracle 11g/10g with production support experience in a multi project environment.
• In-depth knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL including tuning.
• Experience with Unix/AIX in a multi-domain environment including basic commands and shell scripting.
• Oracle Recovery Manager, Import/Export (and Data dump), SQL*Loader
• Oracle performance and tuning skills including server configuration and tracing facilities.
• Practical experience in Oracle Enterprise Manager .
• Good working knowledge of job scheduling and monitoring tools.
• Experience of working with multiple projects/tasks and the ability to priorities on the fly.
• Oracle Streams and Advanced Replication administration.
• An interest in data warehousing.
• Hard working but easy-going partner.
• Familiarity with Oracle specific tools and utilities.
• Knowledge of XML and HTML
• Knowledge of open source web development
• Good documentation skills
• Oracle Certification, OCA, OCP preferably OCM
