About Afghan Social Marketing Organization (ASMO):

 

The Afghan Social Marketing Organization (ASMO) is a social marketing and behavioral change communication organization established in August 2008. ASMO as a free-standing, not-for-profit Afghan organization aims to create positive health outcomes by giving Afghan households the information they need to make informed and healthy choices and expanding access to high quality health products through commercial markets.

From the inception to-date ASMO successfully implemented multimillion Dollar projects in Afghanistan through sub-awards sponsored by USAID focusing to improve health services.

ASMO is currently working as a sub-contractor with Abt Associate Inc under SHOPS Plus/USAID project (The Sustaining Health Outcomes through the Private Sector Plus.

Skills Description:

Expertise in program management with deep knowledge, understanding and appreciation for application of commercial as well as social marketing techniques and principles in public health 

Strong strategic thinking ability, leadership quality and analytical and planning skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, legal documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations;

Strong interpersonal and team building skills, ability to influence and lead internal and external stakeholders  

Excellent business communication skills in English and local languages at all levels - one on one, group, organization and public forums

Excellent business writing skills - business concept notes and proposals, report writing, business correspondence

Exhibits professionalism, good judgment and flexibility to work outside normal working hours to meet the needs of the organization

Duties & Responsibilities:

Technical responsibilities:-

Directs strategy development and implementation for major program areas – Sales and Marketing, New product development and launch, Private sector, commercial and pharmaceutical partnership building, Training and SBCC, Research, Monitoring & Evaluation -- in coordination with the program managers.

Leads sales and marketing planning, warehouse stock holding and replenishment planning, multi-media SBCC activity planning including requirements for merchandising and promotional materials, new product development, sourcing and launch planning, private sector, commercial and pharmaceutical partnership, cost recovery planning for social marketing and social enterprise products 

Plans and supervises monitoring and evaluation activities to report on program performance and results for informed decision making

Assesses the effectiveness of program activities and provides feedback to program managers regularly.

Reports and discusses status of program activities with the Executive Director on a weekly basis and ensures program activity schedules are implemented accordingly.

Acts as the technical lead and interface with international and local partners, line ministries and commercial sector stakeholders

Managerial responsibilities:-

Directly supervises and ensures execution of plans and procedures and for implementing program activities.

Oversees program budget development with program managers and monitors program expenditures to ensure activities are within budget parameters.

Recruits, hires and provides training and supervision of program managers in coordination with the HR department, the Operations Director and the Executive Director.

Works with program managers to recruit, hire and ensure program staff.

Provides performance evaluation of program managers and offers recommendations for their professional development.

Maintains open lines of communications among the program managers and staff and the operations staff.

Foster a culture of teamwork and coordination among program staff

Adheres to all ASMO organization administrative and operations policies and procedures.

 

Organizational responsibilities:

Lends technical knowledge and expertise to assist the Senior Advisor for Business Development and External communication as well as the Executive Director in resource mobilization, fundraising efforts, and developing organizational communication materials.

Represents ASMO’s technical along with Senior Advisor for Business Development and External communication and the Executive Director at the board meetings, external events, including workshops, conferences, and meetings to promote and advance the organization’s work.

Serves as the Acting Executive Director in the Executive Director’s absence.

Works closely with the Director of Operations and the operations staff to ensure sound program administration.

Assumes any other duties, as directed by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Has an MPH in public health or MBA in marketing or other related fields

Has at least ten years of work experience with at least five of which shall have been in senior management capacity

Worked in non-profit or for-profit health organizations
