About UNOPS:


The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Afghanistan is responsible for implementing a number of projects on behalf of the Government of Afghanistan and the aid donor community. The Afghanistan Operations Centre (AGOC) has been set up as an organizational mechanism to deliver a range of projects for which UNOPS has been designated as the Implementing Agency. The functional objective of UNOPS AGOC is to deliver its projects in an efficient and effective manner, so as to achieve the outcomes sought by the project and to assist in the development goals of the Government of Afghanistan. The stated goal is to provide implementation services to the Government of Afghanistan, the donor community and partner agencies in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. Job Summary:

Under the guidance and supervision of the Programme Manager or Project Support/Administrative Associate, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services for the transport of authorized personnel. The Driver has a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. The post is located in Kabul with travel to regional centers.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Provides reliable and secure driving services by:
 Driving vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel, materials and equipments;
 Collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items;
 Meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.

Ensures proper use of vehicle through:
 Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs
 Provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle by:
 Checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, etc.;
 Performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs;
 Ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean at all times.

Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including:
 Vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
 Maintenance of accurate fuel logs

 Ensures that immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
 Performs other related assignments as requested by supervisors

Job Requirement:

a. Education

 Completion of secondary school or equivalent desirable;
 Drivers training highly desirable.
 Certificate in AV/B6 an asset.

b. Work Experience
 Two years work experience as a driver with a safe driving record from a local or International organization.
 Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
 Valid drivers license a must

c. Key Competencies

 Fluency in written and oral English required. Knowledge of second UN working language desirable.
