Under the guidance and supervision of the Programme Manager or Project Support/Administrative Associate, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services for the transport of authorized personnel. The Driver has a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. The post is located in Kabul with travel to regional centers.
Provides reliable and secure driving services by:
ï‚§ Driving vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel, materials and equipments;
ï‚§ Collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items;
ï‚§ Meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.
Ensures proper use of vehicle through:
ï‚§ Accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs
ï‚§ Provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle by:
ï‚§ Checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tries, etc.;
ï‚§ Performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs;
ï‚§ Ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean at all times.
Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including:
ï‚§ Vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts.
ï‚§ Maintenance of accurate fuel logs
ï‚§ Ensures that immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
ï‚§ Performs other related assignments as requested by supervisors
a. Education
ï‚§ Completion of secondary school or equivalent desirable;
ï‚§ Drivers training highly desirable.
ï‚§ Certificate in AV/B6 an asset.
b. Work Experience
ï‚§ Two years work experience as a driver with a safe driving record from a local or International organization.
ï‚§ Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.
ï‚§ Valid drivers license a must
c. Key Competencies
ï‚§ Fluency in written and oral English required. Knowledge of second UN working language desirable.
ï‚§ Shares knowledge and experience
ï‚§ Provides helpful feedback and advice to others in the office
ï‚§ Excellent knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair
ï‚§ Good knowledge of the area and the current condition of roads and highways, security and safety awareness; ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given.
ï‚§ High sense of responsibility; operate in compliance with road and safety regulations and rules.
ï‚§ Excellent knowledge of protocol
ï‚§ Excellent knowledge of security issues
ï‚§ Ability to adhere to work assignments and meet designated deadlines.
ï‚§ Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude
ï‚§ Remains calm, in control and good humored even under pressure
ï‚§ Responds positively to critical feedback and differing points of views
ï‚§ Respect for cultural diversity, including race, gender, or ethnic background
