Kabul, Afghanistan MCM translates written and oral content for a variety of international audiences. We conduct an analysis and then review in detail the instructional strategy for translation that ties the determined methodologies to the project’s success drivers with measurable results. These success drivers include all of the variables that impact the translation, including learner characteristics (such as literacy and tribal dialect(s)), environmental conditions and context, organizational conditions and context, and the key performance indicators for success. MCM designs translation templates based on the specific requirements of the designated audience, and utilizes multi-lingual human linguists who focus on meaning in the application environment as opposed to literal or software-based translation.
The main purpose of the assignment is to edit technical documents, articles, modules, training materials on daily basis. The Editor/Proofreader is responsible for:
Editing technical Dari/English documents in a high quality, easy to understand and accurate manner.
Editing all technical text within a document, modules, chapters and articles including text contained in figures, boxes, captions, sources and covers.
Incorporating suggested changes by MCM to the texts.
Using accurate and appropriate technical terms and terminology during the edit of documents, reports, modules and chapters.
Ensuring the quality and accuracy of all documents, reports and chapter before submitting it to the MCM leadership board.
Meeting agreed deadlines for submitting edited technical documents. The agreed deadline will be negotiated for each task.
Reviews, edits, proofreads, finalizes and approves translated documents.
Oversees and manages program-related documents and translation work flow.
Interprets expertly during meetings, conferences and seminars.
Assists in developing, writing, editing and translating training materials.
Acting and perform duties in a professional manner at all times.
Being able to work under pressure, with a flexible attitude.
Note: If the quality of the edit/proofread was not as per MCM expectation that will directly affect the contract.
The Editor/Proofreader will report directly to the MCM Executive director.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Editor/Proofreader expertise and skills:
5 years progressive experience in professional written translation and edit.
Demonstrated experience in editing professional documents.
Experience in editing documents for news agencies, TVs or any other media and understanding of UN, governmental organizations and NGO’s work and Program.
Outstanding editing skills in Dari and English.
Experience in editing issues relating to Technical manuals, Capacity Building, Education, Health, livelihoods, gender, community development, etc.
Having high quality of editing skills in Dari and English texts.
Fully proficient in computer skills.
Performs other tasks and functions as directed by his/her supervisor.
