Job Summary

 To prepare non formal educational activities through games.
 The activities should categories for the wellbeing of the beneficiaries.
 1st physical activities: including free games and sports. Through direct action, animator/Educator pay attention to the children, providing them on concerned of pleasure and safety
 2nd Creative arts activities:drama and handicrafts. Protection Massages, speeches and poems, through play-acting different scenarios and making designing things, animators provide a friendly environment for learning.
 3rd Non Formal Educational Activities: Including games with rules, reading, and lesson on hygiene and basic life skill. Through structure and guidance, animators can create /or reinforce social skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

Child Protection Policy
• Commit to respect the Tdh Child Protection Policy and principles of child protection.
• Commit to ensure the best implementation possible of the Child Protection Policy in Afghanistan.
• Commit to always keep the Animator supervisor informed of new developments and deal with any cases, allegations, or possible/potential violations of the Child Protection Policy.

Main duties and responsibilities:
• Organise daily fun, creative, non formal education and expressive activities for children in Tdh child centers according to their specific needs and age groups.
• Take part in weekly social work staff meetings to discuss action plan for identified vulnerable child cases that will take part in child center activities. Propose care interventions at the level of suitable child activities that can be easily implemented at the center.
• Follow-up on the identified vulnerable children in the course of activities implemented at the Tdh child center, in close collaboration with Tdh Social Workers and community mobilizers and Child protection officers assigned to these cases who will visit the center on a regular basis for follow up purposes.
• Any other tasks assigned by the supervisor by working in Torkham bazaar, in community, referral of beneficiaries etc.

Behaviour with children:
• Warmly receive children when they come to the child center and ensure that young children are accompanied by an older family member on their way back home.
• Provide a safe and pleasurable space for children at all times while at the center.
• Provide a creative environment for learning.
• Foster friendly relationships between children who share the activities at the center.
• Be careful to not offend any child in the course of your work.
• Respect confidentiality.
• Never record or speak to others about a child or children with special needs in her or his presence.
• Be a good role model at all times while working with children at the center.
• Ensure child participation in all aspects of the life of the center.

Animation:
• Clean and prepare the centre for activities before the arrival of the children each morning and afternoon.
• Organize the children by age groups and implement the following activities according to their needs:
o Creative/arts activities, including drama, music and handicrafts and aid materials creation
o Educational activities, lesson of hygiene and basic life skills.
o Activities with a psychosocial aim, which includes organized and free games and sports.
o Expressive activities, i.e. small group discussions on children’s concerns (in collaboration with the Social Workers)
• Participate in the weekly planning of activities and respect it.

Child Protection:
• Use observation skills to detect any behavioral changes in children that may be reason for concern and share these observations with immediate supervisor and social work team at joint weekly staff meetings to determine appropriate responses.

Reporting:
• Report to her or his immediate supervisor and/or project coordinator on daily basis.

Job Requirements

Education
 High School or Diploma degree with at least two years experience in the field of educator/ Social Animator.

Experience
 At lest two years experience or worked in relevant organization as animator/educator in non formal education.
 To have enough experience in education through games and indoor and outdoor games
 It is important for an animator to have certain qualities and skills when working with children.

Knowledge, Skills and abilities
 Fluency in English, Pashto and Dari in writing, reading and speaking.
 Good reporting skill.
 Fluency in local languages and should be able to communicate in simple English. Excellent oral communication and presentation skills in local languages are required.
 Good understanding of Afghan society, their tradition, culture and values.
 Appropriate level of Computer knowledge is desirable.
