AUAF Background:
The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) is a private, non-profit university offering an American-style liberal arts education. We opened our doors in 2005 and currently offer four undergraduate academic majors and an MBA program. We have expanded operations to the 75-acre international campus across the street from our original campus. The AUAF’s PDI Department is seeking qualified candidates for full-time position as ELC Instructor based in Kabul.
Key outcomes include:
1- Teaching the allocated classes on timely manner as per required standards
2- Review and develop the allocated curriculum per required standards
3- Maintaining the necessary classes/students record in a proper filling system
4- Maintaining and enhancing academic quality of ELC Programs
5- Giving regular and ad hoc report to ELC manager regarding the allocated classes
6- Assisting the ELC Manger and team in developing plans and ensuring the achievement of yearly and periodic academic targets
7- Meeting the requirements and deadlines of the clients/projects if applicable
Job Summary:
The ELC Instructor is responsible for the successful delivery of ELC programs in Kabul– Professional Development Institute (hereafter “Institute”). The Institute provides executive education and professional development training. It works in close alliance with AUAF academic units to provide high-quality services that advance the University’s mission and public image, and to provide the University and its supporters with more visibility and an enhanced reputation for leadership in the establishment of international best practices in commerce, IT, economic development, education, and other areas within Afghanistan and the region.
Responsibilities:
· Lessons are delivered according to the PDI schedule and are purposefully planned and managed in accordance with the course objectives, class needs and quality standards;
· Teaching materials produced to adapt and supplement the course are appropriate to students’ needs and expectations;
· The Instructor will teach 20 contact hours per week in English Language Center;
· In addition to the teaching hours, the instructor will spend 20 hours per week in office for class preparation, marking, assessments and curriculum review and development
· Students are assessed according to Language Center policy;
· Homework is set and marked in a timely manner;
· The Instructor undertakes to arrive in good time for classes;
· The Instructor is responsible for presenting a professional image in appearance and demeanor;
· Class records (including attendance) are kept in hard and soft copy. Enough detail should be given to enable a substitute teacher to take over the class;
· The Instructor works closely with the English Language Manager to maintain a robust network of relationships within the private, public, and non-profit sectors throughout Afghanistan to facilitate the Institute’s public relations activities;
· Assist the English Language Manager in the efficient and effective administration of English program;
Perform any other duties as assigned by the English Unit Manager;
· Masters in Applied Linguistics, English Literature, TEFL/TESL or a closely related subject is preferred. Candidates with a BA/ BSc. in a relevant subject with a CELTA, DELTA or Trinity Cert. are welcome. Extensive experience may be considered in lieu
· Minimum of 5 years teaching experience preferably at tertiary level and including B1+ general English courses in addition to EAP/ESP courses such as iBT TOEFL, IELTS and GRE/GMAT.
Afghan citizen preferred
