The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Afghanistan is responsible for implementing a number of projects on behalf of the Government of Afghanistan and the aid donor community. The Afghanistan Operations Centre (AGOC) has been set up as an organizational mechanism to deliver a range of projects for which UNOPS has been designated as the Implementing Agency. The functional objective of UNOPS AGOC is to deliver its projects in an efficient and effective manner, so as to achieve the outcomes sought by the project and to assist in the development goals of the Government of Afghanistan. The stated goal is to provide implementation services to the Government of Afghanistan, the donor community and partner agencies in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. The adopted mission of UNOPS is to exceed the expectations of our stakeholders.
Under the direct supervision of the Head of Support Services, the incumbent will be required to perform the following duties:
Duties & Responsibilities:
â€¢ Test performance of electromechanical assemblies, Generators, and other office electrical supplies.
â€¢ Verifying dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
â€¢ Repair, rework, and calibrate hydraulic and pneumatic assemblies and systems to meet operational specifications and tolerances.
â€¢ Perform all task related to any electrical works and synchronize system of the generators.
â€¢ Proper installation, connectivity of cables and main switches, as well as allied works.
â€¢ Install generators to form complete power generating stations in the Office premises, including identifying sites and advising on platforms and generator house, if required
â€¢ Carry out scheduled routine maintenance i.e. changing oil filters, and services as well as daily refueling of the generators.
â€¢ Carry out emergency repairs of generators as and when required.
â€¢ Provide lists of spare parts for diesel engines, alternators and control panels as well as necessary tools and equipment, well in advance
â€¢ Monitor tools/equipment and spare parts inventory.
â€¢ Ensure use of the spare parts in a most productive manner.
â€¢ Maintain operation logs for the generators.
â€¢ Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor
The personnel is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.
â€¢ Secondary diploma required. Diploma or Bachelorâ€™s Degree in electrical/mechanic engineering or other related area is considered an asset.

â€¢ Minimum 5 years of work experience in electro mechanic field or related
c. Key Competencies
â€¢ Knowledgeable of circuit boards, control panels, electronic equipments, and including applications and programming.
â€¢ Know correct requirement of electrical loads for proper sizing of generators.
â€¢ Able to design simple installations.
â€¢ Able to prepare material specifications for the purpose of raising requisitions.
â€¢ Provide list of spare parts for diesel engines, alternators and control panels as well as necessary tools and equipment well in advance
â€¢ Ability to perform with minimum supervision and to plan own work and manage conflicting priorities.
â€¢ Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
â€¢ Hands-on technical problem solving skills
â€¢ Ability to work long hours when required
