Under direct supervision of the Program Officer â€“ DEMO, the incumbent of the position will organize demonstration days in the provinces where two-wheel tractors are introduced to farmers. The Farmer Trainer will operate the machines, whilst showing different applications of the tractor and explaining the benefits.
Duties & Responsibilities:
â€¢ Plan two-wheel tractor demonstration days in the area of interest
â€¢ Organize groups of targeted farmers to attend two-wheel tractor demonstration days.
â€¢ Coordinate/liaise with the IRD regional office and MAIL extension departments the planning and implementation of demonstration days.
â€¢ Travel in the assigned provinces with a small team to roll out the demonstration days. This may require staying overnight in rural areas frequently.
â€¢ Operate the two-wheel tractor and implements on demonstration days and explain to the farmers all the benefits of the equipment, including savings made in time/production costs
â€¢ Assess the interest of demonstrations attendees in buying a two-wheel tractor.
â€¢ Assist in identifying eligible middle farmers for the two-wheel tractors program.
â€¢ Identify existing local mechanics who are interested in the mechanics training program.
â€¢ Assist in training of farmers in operation of the two-wheel tractors and implements.
â€¢ Collaborate in the dissemination of printed technical information among farmers.
â€¢ Collaborate with any other AVIPA Plus program activities if requested.
â€¢ At least high school graduated or equalent.
â€¢ Agriculture background required with knowledge of production of staple crops. This person will be speaking to farmers about agriculture. Preferably the person has experience with running agriculture equipment. At least the person should have a feeling for technical mechanical equipment and will be trained in two-wheel tractor operation.
â€¢ The person will be traveling in a small team for most of the time in the provinces of the region they are assigned to.
