PURPOSE:
Field Program Assistant provides support to the ASI-East Field Program Manager for Urgun district area.
• Interpretation during meetings on and off the COP
• Attending meetings with elders, local officials and others together with FPM, and other District Support Team civilians, and military, in order to identify local causes of instability, identify negative and positive influencers, and otherwise gather information to inform ASI activity design.
• In support of Field Program Manager (FPM), contribute to grant design, review, and monitoring.
• Maintain regular contact with key GIRoA counterparts, tribal elders, shura leaders and others as necessary in order to monitor efforts to build their capacity and to keep apprised of challenges or opportunities that may arise.
• Report continuously to FPM on impressions and conclusions drawn from meetings attended and other interactions with GIRoA officials and non-official Afghans.
EDUCATION
• Bachelors Degree required.
WORK EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of three years experience with project design, development and management on development-type projects.
• In addition, must be flexible, willing to travel and perform assigned and additional duties and work irregular hours under potentially hazardous conditions.
SKILLS
• Ability to understand and analyze national, regional, and local (tribal) Afghan politics.
• Ability to work independently, think creatively and apply problem solving skills and provide technical supervision
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to manage a diverse range of professional relationships essential.
• Knowledge and skills to conceive of activities that improve the interface between government and communities and that relate to current political events.
• Preferably from the region that they will be working or with knowledge of the Urgun tribal area.
LANGUAGES
• Level 4 proficiency in written and spoken English and native fluency in Pashto required. Dari fluency a plus.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• No supervisory responsibilities.
BASE OF OPERATIONS:
• Base of Operations is Urgun and surrounding districts. Will be required to live on COP Urgun Eastern Region, Afghanistan (near Urgun District Center)
REPORTING:
• Reports to the ASI Field Program Manager.
