Job Summary

To provide support and guidance to Oxfam’s programmes in Afghanistan by ensuring implementation of Oxfam’s strategies for gender in Afghanistan, networking and representing Oxfam with government and other agencies in programmes that support and advance the participation of Afghanistan women. To build the capacity of the team and to represent Oxfam Afghanistan in regional initiatives and campaigns on gender.


Duties & Responsibilities

•To develop and implement, with others, the Oxfam strategy and programmes that support and advance the participation of women in Afghan society.
•To ensure that gender is considered in all aspects of programming
•To develop a shared understanding with other members of the programmes the strategies to be used and the tools necessary to implement them
•To represent Oxfam in forums relevant to women and/or gender equity, particularly in governance and development.
•To represent Oxfam Afghanistan in Oxfam regional initiatives and campaigns.
•To develop appropriate training and workshop approaches and train the team a combination of interactive, experiential and participatory training methods.
•To develop with the programme teams new gender programming ideas, seek funding and support implementation

Job Requirements

•Sensitivity to cultural differences, and the ability to work in a wide variety of cultural contexts
•Strong understanding of current theories and issues in field of gender and development
•Analytical skills and the ability to think creatively and strategically and to document complex gender issues.
•Ability to model Oxfam’s desired organisational culture (making a difference, innovative, collaborative, accountable, cost-effective) with staff and other stakeholders.
•An ability to work under pressure and a flexibility to work in complex and insecure environments
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as a keen awareness of political sensitivities
•Ability to travel within Afghanistan (security permitting)
•Experience of working with women in an Islamic setting an advantage.
•Have previous management experience
•Commitment to the aims and ethos of Oxfam GB
