BACKGROUND:

DAI is implementing the USAID funded Afghanistan Competitiveness of Export-Oriented Businesses Activity (ACEBA) Program. The objective of this program is to enhance capacities of Afghan exporters and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) associated with export-oriented value chains, such as carpets, marble and granite, precious stones and jewelry, textiles, and cashmere as a means of promoting sustainable economic growth and increasing employment. 

Job Summary:

PURPOSE

Under the overall supervision of the Operations Manager and direct supervision of the Facilities Specialist, the Guest House Cook shall provide meals for ACEBA guesthouse occupants that are hygienic, nutritious and appetizing.

Duties & Responsibilities:

OBJECTIVE AND DUTIES: 

• Prepare and cook meals punctually according to assigned schedules. 

• Ensure that all food is prepared in a sanitary manner, adhering strictly to hygiene standards relating to work attire, personal hygiene, food handling, cold chain management, food preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and project standard kitchen operating procedures.

• Plan menus that provide a variety of cuisines.

• Create healthy food options, using a variety of cooking methods, ensuring that all food groups are offered, holding the health and well-being of staff at the forefront.

• Take into consideration any special requests and/or dietary needs.

• Procure food supplies for the operation of the kitchens and provision of meals in coordination with the Operations Officer.

• Manage food storage and care of all kitchen equipment.

• Keep kitchen clean at all times, including regular cleaning of cupboards, cleaning oven and hob, cleaning and defrosting refrigerators and freezers, and cleaning of all surfaces (floors and units) after each meal and before using.

Job Requirement:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High school degree preferred or relevant experience.

• Certification in hygiene standards is an advantage.


Work Experience: 

• Experience cooking for international programs, offices, or guesthouses preferably with international donor-funded projects, UN agencies or INGO’s on programs in Afghanistan.


Other Skills:

• Understanding of international cuisine and ability to adopt a cooking style akin with international tastes.

• Creative menu planning.

• Excellent hygiene standards.

• Good verbal and written communication skills. 

• Team oriented.

• Punctual and reliable.


Languages:

• Fluent in Pashto/Dari

• Basic English, to communicate with expatriate staff

• Ability to read and write English is an advantage
