Who we are
Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world and is suffering the effects of 22 years of chronic conflict and in the last three years the worst drought in living memory. Millions of Afghans who had little ability to cope with the situation in Afghanistan are still at risk, or in dire poverty. Drivers ensure that Oxfam staff and assets reach the places they are needed in a timely and safe manner. The post has been created to ensure better management of day-to-day vehicle movement and maintenance management for vehicles. It will enable the routine vehicles’ management to be relatively undertaken by one person to ensure things work smoothly and safely.

The Job purpose
To ensure proper vehicle management in terms of vehicle movement, vehicle maintenance as well as vehicle and passenger safety.

Duties & Responsibilities:

•Performance-manage Kabul based drivers
•Maintain Kabul based vehicles and technically verify and take part in maintenance of field based vehicles (when repaired by Kabul Office) and ensure they happen in line with Oxfam GB’s Logistics and Health and Safety procedures and policies and in a cost effective manner
•To report any mechanical faults to the Safety and Security Co-ordinator and ensure it is fixed with support from Logistics
•Coordinate with field offices and others on vehicle movements to field offices and ensure security clearance is obtained from the Safety and Security Co-ordinator prior to any trips by road
•To produce appropriate roaster for the drivers as required
•Act as the contact person for all vehicle movements and maintenance requirements for Kabul vehicles
•To drive Oxfam's vehicles safely and in accordance with government legislation and with organizational policy and security guidelines
•To ensure accurate and up to date records of all journeys, service and maintenance information in the vehicle logbook, and to ensure the vehicle is secure at all times
•To ensure that Oxfam's vehicles are clean and well maintained, to carry out basic daily checks, and to ensure that essential spares, tools, fuel, water and first aid kits are carried as required
•To ensure that all documents are up-to-date, and to inform the Logistics Dept. when the vehicle documents need renewing
•To write up accident and or incident reports using Oxfam’s standard reporting templates of any accident or incident involving Kabul based Oxfam vehicles
•To manage Kabul based drivers’ leaves, overtime, TOIL, etc professionally and in accordance to the existing policies and procedures and keep the line management informed
•Prepare and analyze vehicle fuel and maintenance reports on monthly basis
•To undertake any other duties as required, in accordance with the job purpose, to ensure the efficient operation of the program

Job Requirement:

•Basic staff management experience
•Valid driving licence, with extensive driving experience and driving skills to a high standard
•Good eyesight
•Good interpersonal and communication skills
•Knowledge in vehicle repair and maintenance work
•Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance requirements
•Willingness to be flexible in daily activities and work unsociable hours
•Organized and efficient, with attention to detail
•Basic level of written and spoken English
•Commitment to the beliefs, aims and objectives of Oxfam
