Save the Children, Multi Location
The main purpose of this position is to provide an overall technical support and guidance in the development of Save the Children's health and nutrition program, with a focus on improving access, quality and demand. The Manager Health and Nutrition will also lead Emergency Appeal campaign. The Manager Health and Nutrition will represent Save the Children in health and nutrition cluster meetings.
• Mobilize internal and external capacity building opportunities and resources to ensure technical knowledge management within the health and nutrition team and provision of high quality technical assistance to program implementation team.
• Ensure relevant capacity building opportunities for health and nutrition implementation team. This may include facilitation of workshops or the arrangement of external facilitators to visit the field. Help conduct good quality health and nutrition workshops and ensure that important issues arising from all workshops are documented and reflected and addressed within the project and in new proposals to donors.
• Initiate program learning across all health and nutrition projects with a focus on identifying best practices; creating evidence for advocacy; and promoting coherence among all health and nutrition programs and cross sectoral linkages.
• Be pro-actively engaged in the integration of policy and advocacy initiatives in health including partner and staff capacity building.
• Work closely with Senior Program Manager Research and Innovation to implement operation research and/or innovative strategy.
• Assist in the development of Design, Monitoring and Evaluation tools and methods and establish an effective M and E system and guide implementation team to use these tools and methods.
• Build the capacity of health and nutrition team to ensure that they support implementation team to make informed management decisions using M and E data to maximize use of resources for positive and sustainable outcomes for children.
• Develop Health and Nutrition proposals and ensure that learning from the field and identified gaps are incorporated into all proposals.
• Engage and advise in the development of organization’s five years strategic and annual plans, and be proactively engaged in reviewing and updating health and nutrition program strategy to maximize impact in achieving longer-term, medium term and short-term objectives.
• Lead in the development of a planning cycle for the health and nutrition programs, including annual, quarterly and monthly planning as well as the follow-up of monthly work plans. Review project reports and ensure timely reports to donors and headquarters.
• Represent at Health and Nutrition Cluster meetings and engage proactively in responding to emergency appeals. Help write concept notes and proposals for emergency appeals.
• Represent at Provincial health and nutrition taskforce forums and other co-ordination and liaison meetings with health and nutrition partners, Ministry of Public Health.
• 5 years project management experience, preferably gained within a development setting with an experience of working within health and nutrition team and programs.
• Demonstrable competence in training, monitoring and evaluation, policy review and formulation, proposal and report writing.
• Experience of community participation, ownership and empowerment.
• Strong representational and communication skills sensitive to the cultural and military/political environment.
