Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Head of Technical Section, the Hydraulic Engineer will provide assistance, supervision and mentoring to NRAP/MOPW Engineers and civil Servant counterparts in all aspects of NRAP’s projects. The Hydraulic Engineer will have a sound knowledge of water effects on flood plains, ground and surface runoff, and precipitation, in order to providing analysis and modeling;


The Hydraulic Engineer will be an integral member of the NRAP/MOPW Technical Design Unit. Specific responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to;

Duties & Responsibilities


Prepare the methodology of hydro logical analysis and report preparation

Prepare hydro logical analysis and report for bridge and road projects

Analysis of watershed runoff, channel analysis, floodplain delineation, erosion and sedimentation analysis, statistical analysis for flood frequency, and ground water and reservoir system analysis and modeling.

Analysis and prepare hydro logical report based on the available data from site and USGS resources

Review and check the contractors’ hydro logical analysis and report

Give instruction to contractor for preparing the hydro logical analysis and report

Ensure the contractor’s hydro logical analysis and report meets with standards

Prepares written and oral reports, and makes suggestions and recommendations for inclusion in reports on hydro logical study findings.

Carries out hydrology-related study procedures for assigned projects

Monitor the implementation of the works by conducting site visits and provide guidance for improvement and good results.

Scour depth analysis and calculation of the structures foundations.

Perform any other duty in line with these ToR’s as required by the Head of Technical Section.

Job Requirements


Bachelor's Degree in Water Resource Engineering or Civil Engineering specializing in Hydrology with associated professional experience.

A minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Hydrology Engineering with B.Sc. degree.

At least 1 year professional experience must have experience doing water modeling and experience working with Flo-2d, HEC, HEC 1, HEC RAS, HEC-GEORAS, HEC-HMS, Flow Master, Global Mapper, HEC, HEC 1, HEC RAS, Flow Master, Global Mapper

Must have experience in doing water modeling.

Will be working with a team of senior road/bridge design engineers providing the GIS specialization in addition to providing water modeling and hydrology design services.

Experience with AutoCAD is desirable

Expertise in stochastic and catchment hydrology

A good basic knowledge of probability theory and statistics

Be a good mentor, capable of working with others in a participatory and capacity building manner.

Ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks

Highly motivated and self-directed in advancing complex projects

Ability to gather, understand, and critically analyze relevant hydro logical data from all available sources

Have good analytical, writing, and communication skills.

Experience working with Flo-2d, HEC, HEC 1, HEC RAS, HEC-GEORAS, HEC-HMS, Flow Master, Global Mapper and Storm CAD with Flo-2d, HEC, HEC 1, HEC RAS, Flow Master, Global Mapper, AutoCAD and Storm CAD

Should provide the GIS specialization in addition to providing water modeling and hydrology design services

Knowledge of MS Office.

Willing and ready to travel extensively to visit project sites.

Be thoroughly proficient in written and spoken English.

Willing to travel all over Afghanistan for data collection

Knowledge of both of the local languages is an advantage.

Be a self-motivated, versatile and adaptable to different cultures and people.
