About DAARTT ( Danish Assistance to Afghan Rehabilitation and Technical Training ):
DAARTT - Danish Assistance to Afghan Rehabilitation and Technical Training was established in 2003 as a non-political, non-profit humanitarian organization, registered and approved by Government of Afghanistan on 14th January 2004. Previously, DAARTT was the construction section for another big Danish organisation in Afghanistan â€“ DACAAR (Danish Committee for Aid to Afghan Refugees) for nearly 20 years. Parent organization to DAARTT is Danish Peopleâ€™s Aid (DPA). DAARTT has been working in Afghanistan since 2004 primarily with construction of schools in various number of provinces in Afghanistan The objective of DAARTT is to support the need for reconstruction and development in Afghanistan, with special focus on the Educational Sector. DAARTT main partner in Afghanistan is Ministry of Education. So far, DAARTT constructed and reconstructed over 130 schools in Afghanistan. Technical Assistance to Afghan Department of Construction is also within our mandate and we provide new designs for schools in Afghanistan and with DoC we improve some of their present school standards.
Duties & Responsibilities:
DAARTT would like to retain the services of an international consultant structural engineer to:
Following architectural review, review the structural parts of 20 typical school designs and suggest amendments, take into account disaster risk measures, and ensure that a set of proper construction drawings is prepared for each type design.
Evaluate various technologies of per-fabricated buildings and suggest suitable per-fabrication technology in Afghanistan context.
Work with the architect on the structural design of the low-cost design option.
Coordinate inputs for and lead the drafting of the construction manual.
In addition to the consultant structural engineer, the work will be carried out by a consultant architect and a quantity surveyor. All three will be working together under the overall guidance of DAARTT.
The Consultant Architect will report to the Director or his designated staff.
Advanced university degree in civil (structural) engineering. At least 20 years’ experience with structural design of buildings, preferably including school buildings. Experience with technical assistance in the field of construction and with training, facilitation of workshops and report writing in English. Familiarity with Afghanistan or the region a distinct advantage. Good computer skills and solid knowledge of design software. Complete command of written and oral English. Fluency in Dari and Pashto an added advantage.
