The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) is a private, non-profit university offering an American-style liberal arts education. We opened our doors in 2005 and currently offer 4 undergraduate academic majors and a new MBA program. Job Summary:

IT Assistant monitors and maintains the computer systems and networks of AUAF. May install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware/software faults and solve technical and applications problems, either over the phone or in person. There are increasingly need to rely on computer systems in all areas of operations, therefore; it is crucial to ensure the correct running and maintenance of the IT systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The IT Assistant’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


Installing and configuring computer hardware operating systems and applications;

Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks;

Talking staff/clients through a series of actions, either face to face or over the telephone to help set up systems or resolve issues;

Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults;

Replacing parts as required;

Providing support, including procedural documentation and relevant reports;

Following diagrams and written instructions to repair a fault or set up a system;

Supporting the roll-out of new applications;

Responding within agreed time limits to call-outs;

Working continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate);

Prioritizing and managing many open IT cases at one time;

Rapidly establishing a good working relationship with customers and other professionals;

Conducting electrical safety checks on computer equipment;

Configuring, installing and support projector setup. Helping faculty with projector problems;

If required the IT Assistant may be called over the phone by Direct Supervisor or other AUAF staff;

If required the IT Assistant may be asked to create network cable i.e. Straight or Cross Cables;

Faculty, Staff, and Student may require technical help and IT Assistant are required to possess good communication skills to help them out;

The IT Assistant shall come over the weekends when and if required to troubleshoot IT problems; and

Any other task assigned by the supervisor and IT department.

Specific Duties and Responsibility at the AUAF Housing:


Troubleshooting IT problems at any AUAF guest houses whenever required

Troubleshooting electricity problems in the guest houses for IT equipment

Monitoring the signal strength for the guest houses internet connections

The position requires the incumbent to reside in Afghanistan

Certified in CISCO and MICROSOFT i.e. CCNA and MCITP (preferred)

Bachelor’s in IT or equivalent four years’ experience with high school diploma

Good communication skills in local languages and English

Practical experience with UBNT devices would an advantage
