Job Summary

Under the direction of Information Technology Manager, the IT Assistant is responsible for all assigned tasks as follows:

1. Implement and monitor domain security standards and policies to ensure compliancy with Pajhwok Afghan News (PAN) policies.
2. Perform advanced diagnosis procedures on hardware, peripherals and applications. Give appropriate level of advice on compatibility of hardware and applications with existing systems.
3. Networking and setting up firewalls, disk caches and internet filtering systems. Responsible for security, reliability and availability of computer network
4. Supervise support assistants to track down everyday computer problems and make sure that all antivirus, windows patches and drivers are up-to-date for all computers.

Maintain serviceability of all IT equipments
1. Install, administer and upgrade network operating systems and antivirus software necessarily.
2. Make recommendations to the IT Manager on matters related to location and disposition of IT equipments

Trouble Shooting and Technical Support:
1. The IT Assistant will be responsible for installing software and trouble-shooting/maintaining computer hardware, software and other IT equipment.
2. Update, maintain, and troubleshoot whatever issues PAN staff have with their workstations, office printers and other shared systems, office networks and Internet/Intranet connections, Windows file/print/DNS/etc server, WAPs, and switches, and the PAN email server.
3. Maintain regular backups of server, office data, and periodically test their restoration.
4. Carry out other duties assigned by IT Manager

Job Requirements

• Certificate in the related field of Information Technology, in possession of MCSE, MCITP and CCNA.
• 1-2 years practical experience
• Excellent computer skills in Windows Server 2003 and 2008, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 (POP3 and SMTP protocols), Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista and Windows7, ISA server 2006, Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP and FTP is essential.
• Possess advanced technical skills related to IT hardware and software maintenance and configuration
• A+ certification
• Good working knowledge of both written and spoken English
• Flexible, adaptable, and willing to accept new tasks and learn new technologies as required
• Ability to work independently and during long hours
