The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Afghanistan is responsible for implementing a number of projects on behalf of the Government of Afghanistan and the aid donor community. The Afghanistan Operations Centre (AGOC) has been set up as an organizational mechanism to deliver a range of projects for which UNOPS has been designated as the Implementing Agency. The functional objective of UNOPS AGOC is to deliver its projects in an efficient and effective manner, so as to achieve the outcomes sought by the project and to assist in the development goals of the Government of Afghanistan. The stated goal is to provide implementation services to the Government of Afghanistan, the donor community and partner agencies in the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan. The adopted mission of UNOPS is to exceed the expectations of our stakeholders.
The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Afghanistan is responsible for implementing a number of projects on behalf of the Government of Afghanistan and the aid donor community. The Afghanistan Operations Centre (AGOC) has been set up as an organizational mechanism to deliver a range of projects for which UNOPS has been designated as the Implementing Partner.
Together with partners and the donor community, UNOPS has been involved in projects that support and modernize the Afghan Customs Department (ACD) and facilitate improvements with respect to Customs governance environment in line with the Governance Accountability Action Plan (GAAP) for the ACD. Through Customs Reform projects, UNOPS shall provide assistance to improve the regulatory framework through a comprehensive legislative review, continue to improve donor coordination within the framework of the Informal Customs Network (ICN), and support the ACD through the implementation of the following project activities and components: countrywide computerization of customs clearance operations; installation of executive information systems allowing real time monitoring of operations; development of possible options for cross border Customs-to-Customs (C2C) Cooperation; provision of selected customs infrastructure to enable modernized operations; and, technical assistance to support the development of an adequate regulatory, administrative and institutional framework for Customs.

Duties & Responsibilities:
The position of the Interpreter/Translator is located in the UNOPS Customs project and under the direct supervision of the English speaking International Customs Advisor, the Interpreter/Translator will be responsible for providing accurate interpretation and translation services to fulfill project objectives.
â€¢ Provide consistently accurate and high-quality written and oral translation in English/Dari/Pashtu; this will include oral/simultaneous translations and translations of texts, including legal and policy documents and reports;
â€¢ Provide simultaneous interpretation to the International Customs Advisor at meetings, conventions etc.
â€¢ Ensure the adherence of established translation standards in order to provide delivery of consistent and coherent translation services throughout the project; Collectively with the supervisor ensure the work of the unit is completed and delivered in a timely manner;
â€¢ The Interpreter/Translator will be required to work closely with internal Afghan Customs business units as well as external Customs stakeholders such as Customs Brokers, Importers, and line Ministry officers, in the company of the International Customs Advisor.
â€¢ Ensure clearance and approval of all translated documentation by the management;
â€¢ Keep track of all documents and maintain copies and electronic backups of the translated materials; and
â€¢ Perform other related duties as required.

â€¢ Bachelorâ€™s Degree in English or Law required
â€¢ Certificates in translation techniques highly desirable
b. Work Experience
â€¢ A minimum of 2 years experience in providing written and oral translations/interpretations
â€¢ Experience in translating technical documents required (legal documents etc.)
c. Language skills
â€¢ Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written, a must
â€¢ Excellent spoken and written Dari and Pashto required
â€¢ Ability to provide accurate simultaneous interpretations
