About Afghanistan Payments Systems (APS):
Afghanistan Payments Systems LLC (APS) will help in developing the retail banking market in Afghanistan by providing innovative electronic and mobile payment services that enhance the retail banking offering in the country. APS will be directly responsible for oversight and collaborative activities in defining payment services, common procedures and standards, as well as representation on behalf of its members to the international card associations and networks.
Job Summary:
The Managing Director (MD) is expected to provide strategic leadership for the Afghanistan Payments Systems (APS) and manages the day-to-day operations. The MD will work closely with the Board of Directors (the “Board”) to establish, implement and oversee the goals, strategies, plans and policies of the APS. The MD will be accountable for the business performance of the APS.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Formulating and successfully implementing company policy.
Directing strategy towards the profitable growth and operation of the company.
Developing strategic operating plans that reflect the longer-term objectives and priorities established by the board.
Maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the Chair of the board.
Putting in place adequate operational planning and financial control systems.
Ensuring that the operating objectives and standards of performance are not only understood but owned by the management and other employees.
Closely monitoring the operating and financial results against plans and budgets.
Taking remedial action where necessary and informing the board of significant changes.
Maintaining the operational performance of the company.
Assuming full accountability to the board for all company operations.
Representing the company to major customers (Banks, MNOs, TPSPs, MFIs, etc)s and professional associations – Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, etc.
Building and maintaining an effective executive team.
Develop and obtain Board approval for the annual budget and strategic business plan
Establish and obtain Board approval for product pricing
Prepare the company's annual report
Closely work with the Financial Inclusion Department of DAB and act as the implementing partner to promote financial inclusion.
Engage with Government on Digitizing Payments
Conduct regular business meetings with key clients and represent the company at business events
Appoint company staff and set remuneration as approved by the Board
Manage day-to-day activities of direct reports
Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations for direct reports
Ensure the company has sufficient financial support from Donors and maintain support within the Donor Community and all Stakeholders
Develop and implement a strategic plan to raise funds for the organization in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner.
Also responsible for the financial condition of the organization along with business development.
Any other responsibility assigned by the Board.
Job Requirement:
Degree in Information Technology or Business - MSc/MBA Preferred.
Proven experience as Managing Director or other managerial position – Min 5 Years
Demonstrable experience in developing strategic and business plans
Thorough knowledge of market changes and forces that influence the company
Strong understanding of corporate finance and measures of performance
Familiarity with corporate law and management best practices
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities
Broad knowledge of IT processes, particularly as they relate to banking operations
Experience developing and sustaining constructive relationships with stakeholders of all levels of seniority
Experience in developing grant application for Donors such as the WB, USAID, etc.
Proficiency in spoken and written English, (Dari and Pashto will be an advantage)
Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications
Ability to communicate complex information effectively, both verbally and in writing
Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
Undertakes special Projects/Tasks as assigned assigned by the Board
