PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of this position is to provide income earning opportunities for poor people by strengthening the production and marketing support system. The marketing Officer will work
Closely with the agriculture coordinator and the monitoring and evaluation officer to implement the strategic plans which will be developed through value chain and farming system analysis/approaches. Liaison with traders, merchants and shopkeepers in and /or outside the project areas to build l links on behalf of the project beneficiaries
Duties & Responsibilities:
â€¢ Develop sustainable marketing linkages within the province and adjacent markets.
â€¢ Assist the team in preparing strategic promotion and marketing plans.
â€¢ Identifying and promoting potential income generation activities
â€¢ Assess, prepare , implement and monitor strategies to strengthen the possible program area (based on value chain analysis) and to link them to marketing networks
â€¢ Advice farmers on how to process and package/ storage their produce according to market needs.
â€¢ Collect data, prepare and submit weekly and monthly market price information/ reports to strengthen the early warning system.
â€¢ Prepare and publish marketing materials/economic information based on the analysis of beneficiaries
â€¢ Any other activities requested by the Manager.
â€¢ Develop and maintain active contacts with the relevant stakeholders (traders, merchants and shopkeepers) to build links on behalf of the project beneficiary.
â€¢ Initiating and conducting discussions and negotiations among the value chain actors regarding economic development initiatives.
â€¢ Being familiar with and promoting available stakeholders activities which assist with economic development of the communities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
â€¢ Minimum of 2 years experience in rural marketing system , micro and small enterprise projects
â€¢ Degree/Diploma/ in economics, Business, or related field.
â€¢ Good in written and spoken English, local language.
â€¢ Ability to deal with diverse groups of people.
â€¢ Knowledge of existing government economic development initiatives and program,
â€¢ Ability to access essential information in timely manner.
â€¢ Operating knowledge of computers and office equipment.
â€¢ Good interpersonal and negotiating skills.
