To identify, assess, propose, implement and monitor quality social work services and activities to vulnerable children and their families.
Duties & Responsibilities:
â€¢ To carry out a geographical mapping exercise of the areas where street children are present, including a mapping of the services available.
â€¢ To identify vulnerable children through street approach (street, marketsâ€¦), with the cooperation of families, communities and local partners and authorities
â€¢ To fill in the appropriate identification and monitoring forms.
Implementation of social work activities
â€¢ To visit the identified areas in order to establish a strong link with the children, their families, and the communities, whether at day time or night time;
o To organize meetings with the communities, to explain the goal of the mobile teams, to sensitize the communities to children rights, to involve the community in the identification process.
o To assess working and living condition of the children and their families and identify their needs.
â€¢ To follow up all children supported, outings and type of assistance provided. Social workers will visit and assist the children and families on a regular basis to help them find adapted solutions.
â€¢ To sensitize employers to child labour issues.
â€¢ To take an active part in networking with relevant child protection stakeholders and to participate to meetings with them
â€¢ To visit childrenâ€™s families, and carry out individual meetings with guardians of the children, in order to identify the difficulties and needs that lead the child to the street.
â€¢ To encourage as much as possible school enrolment and to follow up attendance and progress. This includes initial contact with school directors to check the enrolment procedures, awareness raising towards the schools on the integration of these children, and follow up of attendance
â€¢ To be involved in advocacy and awareness activities together with other EM-DH staff members
â€¢ To take part to a survey on street based children phenomenon, their vulnerabilities and humans rights violation, and to conduct advocacy actions accordingly.
â€¢ To attend internal trainings
â€¢ To give trainings to colleagues on their field of expertise under the supervision of the social work advisor. In particular, to participate to peer-to-peer support.
Reporting/ coordination / meetings
â€¢ To follow up all the individual identification and follow up forms of the children
â€¢ To attend internal relevant meetings
â€¢ To represent EM-DH in external meetings with local partners and ministries upon request
â€¢ To provide a monthly report to the Social work advisor
Hierarchical: The street social worker works under the direct supervision of the Social work Advisor / coach
Transversal: The street social worker cooperates closely with the rest of the social work team, and with the Education team.
Education: Minimum of level 12 â€“ perfect reading and writing skills expected.
Communication skills, child and family contact essential.
Relevant university degree is desirable
Good written and verbal communications skills (English, Dari, Pashtu)
Fluency in French an asset
Good Knowledge of computers including word processing, spreadsheets and Internet use
The position is located in Kabul and requires daily movements in the city.
