The Embassy of Denmark to Afghanistan is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the broad range of Danish–Afghan relations, which includes considerable work within state-building, particularly focussing on police-reform. The Embassy possesses a substantial development assistance portfolio in the areas of (1) primary education, (2) state-building, and (3) livelihoods improvement. Denmark is committed to promoting peace and development throughout Afghanistan and has a particular focus on Helmand province.
To strengthen the Embassy’s political and development sections, the Embassy seeks a new National Programme Officer to assist with a range of state-building activities. The National Programme Officer will report to the Deputy Head of Political Affairs and Deputy Head of Development. The National Programme Officer will assume the following duties:
Programme Management
• Follow the work concerning police-reform in Afghanistan and the implementation of the District Development Programme.
• Assist with programme and project preparation, administration, monitoring and reporting as well as following up on outstanding accounts and audits.
• Help administer the project development database (PDB) and contribute to regular reporting on projects.
• Liaise with Afghan ministries and key political actors in Afghanistan with a particular emphasis on the Ministry of Interior and the Independent Directorate of Local Governance.
• Draft updates and reports within the area of responsibility.
• Attend and report from meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences and represent the Embassy in such fora when needed.
• Monitor and translate news items as well as reports in Afghan media of particular interest to the Embassy.
Visiting delegations
• Arrange programmes for visiting delegations and prepare background documents as required.
• Assist visiting delegations during their visits to Afghanistan.
General
• Oral and written translation between Dari/Pashtu and English.
• Any other duties as required.
• University degree in political science, economics, sociology, law, international relations or related field.
• At least 3 years relevant professional experience – previous work with project management, dealing with accounts, reviewing progress reports, etc.
• Proven numerical skills.
• Very good knowledge of computer programmes such as MS Word, MS Excel and Power Point.
• Fluency in English, Dari and Pashto, both written and spoken.
• Proven interpersonal skills and a strong team-player
