Job Summary

This current assignment is seeking to recruit a National Project Officer (NPO) to support the revision of
the Afghan national education curriculum by the Ministry of Education (MoE). It is expected that this
officer will be fully involved in providing both management and implementation support to UNESCO’s
curriculum work with MoE.

Duties & Responsibilities

The National Project Officer will perform the following duties:
 Support the UNESCO Education Unit in all aspects of planning, implementation, coordination
and monitoring of curriculum reform activities, including the provision of high quality technical
inputs;
 Assist in the drafting of contracts, concept notes, one pagers, public awareness articles, and
internal/external reports.
 Organize and facilitate relevant meetings and other events (e.g. workshops), including the taking
of accurate minutes and organizational/logistical details;
 Assist in the formation and operation of relevant working groups convened to support program
implementation;
 Assist with overall budget and work plan management;
 Identify challenges, obstacles and difficulties affecting project implementation and assist in the
development of mitigation strategies;
 Provide technical verbal/written translation from national languages to English and vice versa
where required;
 Facilitate good working relationships with the General Directorate of Curriculum (GDC) and
other departments of MoE.
 Conduct any other duties assigned by the Chief of Education.

Job Requirements

The National Project Officer should be possessed of the following skills, experience and
abilities:
 University degree, preferably in education or the social sciences;
 At least 8 years of relevant work experience in education;
 Proven and effective program management skills;
 Experience working successfully with the Government of Afghanistan;
 Previous experience in the United Nations system is an advantage;
 Excellent understanding of education systems, policies, planning and capacity development;
 High-level drafting and communication capacity in English, Dari and Pashto;
 Excellent organizational skills, including specific experience in the organization and facilitation of
workshops and meeting.
